especially enjoyable tor the twentyflve m who at tended due to the tt tha t class was entertaining six ladles that day belonging to the march praup io the womenjs church year of st matthews anglican church at aldershot these ladies had come to watch a typical meeting of the hobby class- and to make a donation to the class mrs allen one of the directors of the class introduced the visitors to the manor ladles and then requested mrs c blank- stein the leader of the march group to describe some of the ac tivities of her group mrs blank- stein explained that her group makes layettes and dolls for babies and small children visits hospitals and does other philanthropic work the main object of the group how ever is to bring he women of the church together and establish friendship among them a discussion took place as to the best way to sell tickets for the draw on the quilt that is o be raffled off the hope was ex pressed that some ladies living outside the manor would feel that they could help out by selling some of the raffle tickets which are to be sold at 25c each the probable date of the draw was set at may 15th a donation of very attractive remnants received from mr john slingsby a resident of the manor who in turn had received them from his brother was accepted with thinks the making of a crib quilt as a summer project and its subse quent display at the fall fair were discussed the aldershot ladies then pre- sentel their donation to the hob- by class and it w display to all this generous and practical donation included wool knitting needles crochet cotton and many other useful gifts another dona tion of cakes of soap hand lotion and other articles that will be very suitable for bingo prizes was also made a hearty round of ap plause in appreciation of all the gifts was given the happy birthday song was sung forlaiss jean menzies after a considerable amount of business had been transacted cup of tea and delicious fancy cookies the latter donated by the visiting ladies were enjoyed by all in all the meeting was a very enjoyable one and it is hoped lha the aldershot ladies wilt come again soortr the sweet strains of childrens singing were heard in the dining- room of the manor on wednes day evening march 25th when sixteen young boys and girls who are pupils of chapel st public school in georgetown came tojthe manor to present a program mr v stein principal 6f the school acted as chairman and mr kenn eth harrison arct was music director mrs james evans was accompanist at the piano for all the vocal numbers three teachers on the staff of the school came also the boys and girls singing as a choir sang five numbers rang ing from the irish folksong coc kles and mussels to the rousing civil war song battle hymn of the republic under mr harris ons expert conducting every num ber was sung in beautiful harm ony barbara evans and bobby mc- cumber sang a very fine duet come sweet delight and bobby sang a very acceptable solo the knights song mrs evans ant mr harrison delighted the audience wih two enjoyable piano duets t for two and the wedding of the patntedt5oir the entire concert was a very enjoyable one and a return engagement in the near future is hoped for at the close of the concert cookies and cold drinks were served looking very smart in their band uniforms that combined the col ours wine black and white forty bandsmen and bandswomen of the burlington concert band and their expert leader mr elgin coflett presented a concert at the manor on thursday evening march 26th the selections played by the band ranged over the last hundred years from the time of johann strauss to modern times strauss was re presented by the playing of his lovely waltz tales from the vien na woods and modern composers by several numbers among them jars pizzicato by leroy ander son the music of the intervening one hundred years was drawn up on with the playingvambngoffiers of a medley of victor herbert fav ourites a medley from irving ber lins musical comedy annie get your gun and sousas famous marchthe stars and stripes for ever grand opera supplied the ray mond overture by thomas while dixieland music was represented by warringtons dixieland con certo there were eleven comp ositions in all on the programme all beautifuly played mr lee j smith of burlington had been in strumental in arranging this con cert of lovely music and mr cor- let displayed his usual fine talent in conducting the band cold drinks and cookies were served bringing a very enjoyable evening to a close people who know are turning to volkswagen af- ernoon march 27th by sixteen young girls from the cedarvale school for girls at georgetown the transportation of the girls had been arranged by mr stan hall mpp for halton the girls were accompanied to the manor by their superintendent mrs o houston their teacher mrs iva margeson and several other mem bers of the cedarvale school staff dressed in their navy blue and white uaiforms the girls made a very attraotive appearance led by mrs margeson with mr j shrub- sole playing the piano accompani ments the girls presented an easter program consisting of poetry dia logue a scripture reading singing and piano solos the dialogue pre sented by several of the girls stres sed the meaning and significance of easter and several easter hymns sung by the girls delighted the audience with their harmony the story of easter assembled from the four gospels was read with fine expression by one young girl three girls won the hearts of their list eners by playing piano solos at the close of the program mrs houston expressed her thanks to mr hall and others who had furn ished transportajon for the girls and extended greetings for a joyous easter to the residents from the staff and girls of cedarvale school these easter greetings were re turned to mrs houson her staff and school girls to mr hall and all other present by muriel thom pson in her speech of thanks mr locke one of the residents related the story of how the robin got his red breast by plucking a thorn from christs crown of thorns the schoolgirls sang the happy 1 birthday song for miss h met- calfe mrs a pamell and sever al other residents whose birthdays fall in the month of march a special easter gift a paper basket made by the girls themselves and containing an easter egg and other candy was presented to each res ident present the girls then tour ed the building presenting similar baskets to residents who had been police news wlse men do not grieve for the things they have not but rejoice for those which stop signs will be erected at the intersections in this fair town of ours where there was none prev- ously your police department strongly urges the citizens of georgetown to be on the lookout for these new signs and act accor dingly the new point system came into effect on wednesday april 1st for failing to stop at a stop sign each offender will receive three points the maximum is twelve so it doesnt need many stop sign offences before your license will be revoked for three months the highway traffic act states sectional 3 a thedriver or operator of every vehicle upon approaching a stop
