local firm hofmann cori struction will build the ten room public school proposed for weber drive t was announced wednes day evening april 4th following the opening or tenders before the board at harrison nublic school the hofmann firm submitted the lowest of seven bids received by the board and were awarded the contract after each tender was con sidered at some length construction on the two storey building will begin immediately with the completion date set at august 15th the architects are john b parkin associates at a meeting last month the board expressed concern over the cf 105 project a situation which could have mean a decrease in the number of rooms proposed had the dept of education seen fit- had the department instructed a rephui the opening would have been delajed possibly until janu ary 1960 though slackening off sharply the influx of new residents in the delrex area did not halt entirely the only fact that saved the prop osed teaching capacity front being cut in half present lenten boxes at easter service easter day services at st geor ge s anglican were marked with a high attendance in the after noon at 3 pm the church school led by the superintendent church while this period of time had a break after 6 years of servicemr laird came back and has now completed almost ten years more as sl john s music director he leaves this church to become the music director of al derwood united church and will be succeeded by kenneth r har rison after the evening service on sunda the congregation mem bers of the junior and senior choirs and others who had assist ed the choir on special occasions met in the memorial hall to bid farewell to mr and mrs laird bruce will amson chairman or the music committee of the session most fittingly called it norman laird night words of apprec lation and good wishes were ex pressed by the chairman bruce williamson bj rev m g mcfar lane and by tom varam a member of the session and a mem ber of the choir during mr laird t time of leadership which went back 24 years alex maclaren also a member of the session spoke mrs bernard shrubsole brought the greetings of the junior choir and one of the girls of the choir a proud evening indeed fer par ents guiders and guides when two georgetown guides carole lane and barbara kinrade received their gold cord certificates in convoca lion hall university of toronto guides from all over ontario were honoured at this very solemn and impressive ceremony mrs mu riel collen the organist gave an organ recital prior to the entrance of the gold cord guides and the official part which was followed b the national anthem and the girl guide prayer mrs k b cljs dale the provincial commissioner welcomed them on behalf of the province and mrs w rankine es bitt chief
