of union presbyterian church when a new chancel window was dedicated to the glory of god and to the mem ory of mr and mrs fred c thompson a large congregation of mem bcrs and friends gathered for the ervice which was conducted by the minister rev g l royal the new window situated in the chancel of the church building depicts the good shepherd as he is recorded in the gospel ac cording to st john chapter 0 surrounding the figure of christ are various symbols of the early christian church to remind the worshipper of his rich heritage and the love of god toward man kind in the quadrafole of the window is the burning bush not only to remind one of the onward mission of presbyterian im but also a continual rejoinder that the voice of god speaks in the service of praise to the brok en and contrite heart in the western jpanel appears the bap tismal font and in the eastern panel the chalhce to signify to one and all the two sacraments of the church baptism and holy communion and the basic neces sity of all men to participate in these precepts of the lord over flowing into the two outer panels and engaging the entire centre panel is the good shepherd with the lambs and sheep in his arms and at his feet an inscription i am the good shepheid st john 10 11 underlies the whole picture in the lower portions of the panels arc three symbols the sheaf of wheal the hmn book and the cluster of grapes the wheat sheaf is emblematic of the vast harvest before every christian to be reaped and brought into the fellowship of christ s church it is also symbolic of the eldership and the necessity laid upon every t ider of the kjrk to see to the in tathering of so great a harvest 1 he lite mr thompson was an elder of the church and this smbol has very special signifi cance to all who of our parents fred g thompson and agnes leslie my sister mrspulithg and i ask you to receive this memorial and to dedicate it to the glory and praise of almighty god the minister replied we- accept this gift as a sacred trust and shall guard it reverently in honour of the faith lul and devoted lives to whose memory it is erected the words of dedication followed in the faith of our lord jesus christ i dedicate this memorial to the glory of god and in memory of his faithful servants fred c thompson and agnes leslie in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the service
