october 31st 1956 whats the matter with us marilyn souther to some people the word teen ager conjures up the picture of a mixed up young hoodlum noise ill manners and a complete disre gard for higher authority would be their definition of a teener it s easy to sec from where this idea would come newspapers carry any stories of the comparatively few teenagers who fit this descrip tion however because of this ma ny people class teen agers in this tegory we arent all like that from a survey of teeners taken in the united stales it was shown that an amazingly high percentage had some church affiliation while the percentage of parents with church connections was much lower in a average town you will definitely find llie hoodlum type but stop to take note of all the others who arc milton oct 15th milton blanked georgetown by a 10 score with the inability to set up defence against the milton end runs a deciding factor in the re sult a costly fumble in the first quarter dn the georgetown 25 yard line contributed to the first mil ton td glen wilson scooted right around the right end for the six- pointer bainbridge later added to the milton score when he gal loped around ihc right end for the first of his two touchdowns one of the reasons for the success of the end runs was that milton- were sending out three blockers with the ball carrier to take out two georgetown linebackers inciden tally all the tds were run around the milton right end georgetown suffered its second straight setback at the hands of milton when they were shutout 13 0 at georgetown october 18th milton opened the scoring early when on the first day of the game bainbridge seootetl around the mil ton left tnd and galloped 40 jards touehdovvn toron after that the game settled into a tug of war th the georgetown defensive line up effectively stopping the mil ton end run unfortunately for georgetown however in the sec ond quarter milton recovered a kick on the cis 15 yard line and bainbridge again was the target when he was hit with a pass in the nd one to finalize the scoring at 13 0 in be second half the milton of- nse was held m check but the us offense was unable to move into gear and lime and time again stalled in mid field georgetown used a six man line as the defens iv e set up and except for the ap parent lapse on the first pla of the gam it was effective against the milton offense incidentals in two games liainbndge of milton scored 4 con seculive tds against georgetown georgetown lost almost all chance of winning the halton tro phv which appears headed from giis to mhs the bazaar rhoda dixon as you should well remember last years fourth form organized a very successful bazaar in fact about 200 was made and given to the student council the money was used for several things among them the formal and the trip to ryerson the decision after this first successful attempt was that the bazaar was to be a yearly event and to be organized by the fourth form girls the reason that the job was to be grade 12s was that the majority of lower school girls havent the experience to organize such a project and upper school girls havent the time to do it jus tice no attempt has been made as yet to start the ball rolling last year organization did not start un til about six weeks before the ba zaar it was held on december 6 more time would have made the bazaar an even higger success come on girls its up to you to be gin organization the fifth girls are willing to help you get started if the plans arent soon underway the bazaar will not become a real ization this year this cant hap pen the profits mean too much to the general welfare of the stu dent body am one who is inter ested schould contact mama mac kenzie grade 9b luke j ants en ehool why do we go to brown secretary treasurer of the north halton high school dis trict board we found some very interesting information about this phase of our education the district consists as you may or may not know of acton milton georgetown and the townships of nassagaweya and esquesing the yearly levy from each of these five municipalities is based on the equalized assessment for the prev ious year in 1956 the percentages paid are acton 1703 per cent georgetown 2739 per cent milton 2203 per cent esquesing 2385 per cent and nassagaweya 970 per cent the levy for the district is 119200 while the government grants are 107200 the following are some interest ing facts and figures about costs in ghs the gross cost per stud ent per day in 1956 will be about s190 a student absent for one day costs the district about 55c in reducing grants so it behoves us lo attend school regulanly as our absence actually costs the district money instead of saving it in the three district schools the total high chool registration is about 800 students government grants are of two types 1 a percentage grant 75 per cent in 1950 on approved ex penditures for debenture payments bus transportation and smaller items 2 a grant for av erage dailv attendance for the pre ceding year this amounts to no on s10gm per studuil expenditures for audiloriums gymnaia shop and home economic 100ms are not aiov j fur grant
