may 14th afar having been in failing health for two or three years mr cumm ings lived here when a young man practicing his trade as an electrician and also at the time of his marriage to the late marvel forstcr daughter of the late mr and mrs benjamin forster following their marriage mr and mrs cummings lived in georgetown for a year and then moved to toronto mrs cummings died thirty years ago surviving are their three children hospital campaign launched if all the affairs of georgetown hospital associ ation run as smoothly as the victoria day celebration which launchel the campaign for a new hospital then it wont be many years before the new building ap pears monday was a happy combination of good planning fine weather and a varied program which kept a large crowd in a gay mood and ligtened what is sometimes a dull holiday monday in town it was the first celebration of this kind on a holiday for several years and confounded those who thought the day of small town holiday entertainment was ended but more importantly it accomplished the obective of putting the hospital project before the public in a subtle but concrete way not many can now say that they don t know the georgetown hospital is gotng to be it is nice to see people enjoying themselves in simple ways swimming pool still needs help so often nowadays the speed of modern living makes us slight the more personal pleasures of view ing local talent joining in a community sing and wandering around saying hello to friends and meet ing new people monday was a reversal and you could tell by peoples faces that they were having a good time it was particularly nice to see so many of the newer residents many of them probably hav ing their first look at the park and knowing ihey would share pride in the lovely setting second to none for its beauty we owe a debt of gratitude to those whose work produced such a pleasant combination of fun while getting their point about a new hospital in the public eye while a hospital is m the immediate public eye we must not forget that there is a ob to finish yet in georgetown the community swimming pool while ready to open this year still needs several thousand dollars to pay off the debt entailed by a group of men who had enough faith in georgetown s generosity to back its construction donations to date have been generous and a great majority of people have done their part well by cash or pledge contributions which have raised well over half the 50 000 necessary to build the pool but there are still many to be heard from par ticularly in the newer subdivisions where it is a traffic lights needed it is to be hoped that there will not be too much delay in deciding on traffic lights at the main street four corners and at the dangerous highway john st intersection council has discussed the matter on several oc casions during the past few years but for one reason or another nothing has come of it a growing town and increasing traffic has again brought the question before the public and ther will be general rejoicing when the final dec on pot pourri those who saw a tv tour of the three toronto daily newspapers telecast on the toronto station sun day may have noticed a former herald staffer in the picture harold davison formerly of glen williams vho started his trade at the herald appeared in oni of the pictures of the telegram shop and was noticed by many viewers we heard of a thoughtful ges ture this week which would be appreciated by men working on the gas pipeline a lady noticing how hot it was on friday put out a cold milk bottle of water on the back porch ith a cup and it was well patronized by workmen who were refreshed by a cool drink many people are remarking on the ef ficient way the i ne binrj h d ind the rjoo j ord r kit behind after the excavation is backfilled it is one of the slickest construction jobs that has ever ben done in town and the pipelaying firm certainly fact that a larger majority of people will benefit than from the older parts of town it is realized that peo pie who have invested in new homes do not have too much cash to spare and no one expects people to dig too deep past their other obligations to young families but there are few employed people nowa days who cannot budget some amount for such an important recreational asset as a swimming pool the swimming pool committee is hopeful that more people will offer their support in a tangible way in order to open the pool debt free comes noon hours and 5pm are thr peak tr if times but there now seems to be a steady mream of traffic uptown which makes it difficult and dangerous especially for children and elderly people to cro s the four corners as for the highway no 7 seems always to be busy and there is usually a lineup of cars watt rg to venture from john st into the streini her a tr iff actuated light would seem to be the answ r lit on mam st a t me control r m f being discusvh knos their busmen k m langdon has
