marilyn south r the time has come the walrus said but it is a very different time for us from the one which the wal rus was discussing exams will soon be upon us and it is now that we must begin to prepare a whole year s work of necessity must be covered in these exams and we all know how many tricks and hard qucs tions can be dreamed up for us most people have set ideas about the proper way to study our opm ion is that the most important thing is to study not how to if you learn more by standing on your head and reading the book upside down then that is the way to do it this is not recommended a word to the wise though a carefully prepared timetable of your exams is very handy everyone knows his worst subject and should study it the most however in your enthusi asm don t forget that first things come first it would do no good to itutly a subject the night after you had written the paper make an attempt to study subjects in ihe or der in which you write the exams we may have been cruising mem ly along throughout the year and we got by but we can t expect to cruise through exams a school year is al most behind and it depends upon ghs additions past present future doug wrigglmworth as we can look forward to start ing another year with even more crowded facilities we thought it would be interesting and informative to look back on the development of the rather small addition which we have at the present time away back about 37 or 38 the matter of a completely new high school which would have included home economics shop and a gymna tonum was proposed it was put before the voters and by a small majority was turned down how un fortunate for the town that our rate payers were not more farsighted at that time when the school could have been built at the fraction of todays cost however things really started to happen about 1946 when the board started to improve the original build ing then about 6 years ago came the students first bit of campaigning the senior students wrote essays which were published in the herald the subject of many of these was a new school in 1949 the north halton board was formed but georgetown refrain ed from joining the board because it was against the board s plan push thee few remaining weeks whether t by the dept of education at that er the hid a choir report judy mccumbtr congratulations to our public si hools on their ill ivt jot to luck nou to a have large central school at speyside all the students ft north halton would commute to this school where they would have larger and better facilities to be educated in including a matonum georgetown linally joined in 1950 9 and a great battle raged for years with georgetown opposing the cen tral school gradually the depart nient changed its mind and decided to leave it at three separte schools al that time acton and milton already had small additions three tars ato acton got a new school and georgetown just an addition last fall a survey showed that we nieded an eight room addition this w as planned and arranged for al though little has shown of it as yet with reference to the much need ed and much mentioned gymnatonum we gathered some informative infor mation from quite a reliable source rirstly ihe present addition was built with plans for a gmnatonum to be attached on the side where the irl s and boys washrooms arc now jt seems that georgetown just miss ed the boat attain when in 1953 the government refused to give grants anj longer for frills thus with out a government grant of 60 a gmnatonum costing between 70 000 and 100 000 would be next to im possible as at the present such mat ttrs arc dealt with and financed by live different councils so there is the situation at present with rather focgy hopes for a much needed gvmnatonum far
