the georgetown herald wednesday evening april 18 1056 page 2 chatting with m h b 9 i see our neighbour is get ting his seeds planted out in his cold frames no wonder that beautiful thursday was enough to stir the gardening instincts of even those lazy ones who were content to only bask a bit in the sun with some of us it takes two or three lovely days like that to really get those yard cleaning up gardening in stmcts working so let the days come winter bas lingered long enough 0 local people arc still return mg from florida where i suspect they have been thorouehl spoil ed as far as wcalhcr is concerned from all reports it was ideal down there this winter i wis just talking with mrs r b canham last week they took their family susan peter and chris with them and motored down to rivo alto island the holi daj lasted two weeks so they duln t have so very lone to enjoy the dt lights of florida but since il was a first time they enjojtd eer nun ute of it even tht trip down had its t citement that is in addition to tuttn a blight ind cirl start at five cer morning 1 had alwns uomiirid how oni would nunui a trip like that with a famih but mrs canaham sas it was quite sim pie once they got started on iheir wij thei carried gnptfrml and oranges with them and when thty arose at that vcr earl hour in route thev each had some fruit and i drink of wilir piled into the car and drove a hundred milts bt fort stopping for a good substantial breakfast and another verv nn portant item that made their trip all the more cnjojable la in the fact that their children are good travel lers they are old enough to enjoj the different eountrsidts the passed thru 0 in the way of excitement on the way down the canham bojs particularly were thrilled to see a sherrif chase just like on t v the cars came roaring past the sherrif hot on their trail the sherrif headed the bad guys off and when the canhams passed the dramatic scence the wanted men were emerging reluctantly from their car at gunpoint but before thev saw the sherrif chase the canhams saw a terrible tragedy on the high wa where several huge transports and a car were involved in a colli sion and one of the transports was in flames to strike a happier note how ever the canham family found florida delightful mrs canham says the air is so clear and clean to say nothing of being warm and on one s first arrival the very differ ent trees and beautiful flowers con stantly amazed them the canham s stayed with friends and one of the nicest features of their stay was at tending a girls school graduation which was held outdoors on a moon lit balmy evening incidental to our chat about her impressions of florida i was sorry to hear that the canhams will be moving to cobourg sometime this summer mr canham has a position with affirm there 9 and it was while motoring home from cobourg last friday hi thirthwnth that mr canham miraculously escaped injury in a freak accident which smashed his car to smithereens and practitally buried him in two tons of bntks the fact that it was a friday tht 13th in the springtime was partly to blame too because the young driver of the truckload of bricks claims he failed to notice the can ham car had come to a stop behind a school bus he had been too busy watching a young girl on a bicycle approaching from the opposite direction thus the truck had practical ly collided with the canham tar before the driver slammed on his brakes and swerved just eatching the canham car at one corner the force of the impact rammed it into the hack of the school bus pushing it forward 15 feet and completely smashing the front of the canham car at the same instant mr can ham felt a brick hit him on the back of his head the lmmedntc fore runner of a regular avalanche of bricks which poured thru the broken back window completely swampint the car i uckily the roof of the car didn t cave in or mr canhams in juries might hac been serious as it was the flying brick inflicted his only injury it was almost miracu lous when you consider that the only part of the car worth salvaging were the tires it was so completely wreck ed the accident happened on the stretch of highway between wood bridge and no 27 highway it was really luclry unlucky friday the 13th for mr canham one of the most thoughtful things and one that added a note of poignancy to the wedding re ception on saturday april 7th fol lowing the marriage of joyce hem bruff to pte brian sprack was the playing of t recording this parti cular recording had been sent from england where the bridegroom eng uih parent had bad it made especial ly for the wedding when the record was played just before the toasts to the wedding party were proposed it took everyone completely by surprise as brian s mother father grandmo ther and little niece congratulated him and sent their love to the bride on the recording they said bow sorry they were that they could not be present for the wedding but that they arc looking forward to seeing brian and his bride in england this september at their home in dorking surrey 0 pte sprack was born and rais ed in england but at present is a member of the army paratroop ers in kingston he is a nephew of mrs ernie birnes and mrs barnes and her daughter were the only ones who kntvv of the record befoie it was played the bndt ind groom ire planning to visit his pirents in sep tember when they will be able to congratulate them in person 0 always interested in dra matics and who can say she dotsn t come by it honestly with both parents keenly interested as well sylvia lambert has carried her interest in acting ot into her post graduate days on thursday night mr and mrs i ambcrt and daughter cynthia saw her enacting a lole in ladies in retirement pu scntcd by the grimsbj little
