shelley streets monday when sid hardie president of the ratepayers as sociation presented the petitions to council the request for culverts met with little favour from council with a maj ority of members saying that the pre sent trend is to remove culverts which freeze solid in the winter and lead to bad drainage in the spring months the property owners have agreed to pay for their own culverts mr hardie said but would ask the town to instal them so that there would be a uniform system cr alf sykes said it is up to the subdivision contractor to put roads at the proper elevation and that he is opposed to culverts his views were shared by reeve allen who said drai nage conditions on river drive where he lives have been improved since culverts were removed and by cr harry hale who recited a similar sit uation on ontario street road chairman gray also opposed culverts a lot of money has been wasted on maintenance he said in cases where culverts freeze solid and spring water cuts into pavements and roadwavs mr hardie had pictures of lakes in various section of the subdivision engineer douglas wilson said the photos represent an example of con ditions frozen culvert cause major armstrong said he is certain that diainage conditions will right themselves when the roads are put in proper shape at the right level and when properties are landscaped with grass and shrubs which help to make natural drainage both requests were turned over to the road committee for study and re commendation to council plans for developing a proper inter section for mountainview road and no 7 delrex blvd which will be set back far enough to conform with the highway pattern jesse hazelwood dies was former resident a former resident of georgetown jesse hazelwood died in humber memorial hospital weston on sun day march llth mr hazelwood who was greenskeeper and manager when the willoughby golf club was first formed here moved to wes ton some years ago he was in bis 78th year besides
