division of tha cwjja- and so we grow ihe bjaat thinb in georaetowns his tory wn in the making at last week herald wa in proceu of preparation just as we were ready to go prea the news came that the annexation hearing had ended and that the municipal board had granted the town requeat to incorporate eleven neighbouring farms into the munici pality a total acreage of over 1600 will double georgetown boundariei and the plan which the delrex company envisage will de finitely take us from the small town class in to horizons which no one even dreamed about year ago georgetown now enters a stoge of plann ing for the future and there is little time in which to do so informed men nt the annex nominations important it seems fitting that annexation was an nounced on the eve of the nnnual nomination jneeting which takes place phursday night in the library and it is a particular challenge to those who feel they could contribute something to public office to present themselves that night the one hour nomination period gives an op portunity for men and women to submit their names for council public school board and hydro commission and it is a certainty that all three bodies will have plenty of work in 1955 as the delrex plan comes into being never has there been a time when it is so important to have people at the helm who are willing to do a job for georgetown of course we all can t run for office but second best is to attend the nomination meeting listen to present officeholders ex thanks for everything they say one doesn t appreciate friends until one needs them and if this is so the editor could fill this issue with cards of thanks so many were the kind enquiries during a brief illness which proved not so serious as at first we feared we were back at the helm last week but so busy getting back to routine that we didnt have time to say thanks while our good wife was renewing her acquaintance with office routine she was de luged with offers of assistance with kind ation hearing said that within three to five years georgetown may be the biggest satellite town in the i orontohamitonguelph indus trial area rex heslop has already announced a mass housing development on the reid farm winch will build in a few months as many houses as have been constructed here in a decade such growth is staggering in its implic ations and there is scarcely a person who will not feel its effects we must be ready to meet the challenge which growth presents each in his own way and to ensure that the future georgetown twice as big is as good a town and better than the happy prosperous pro gressive community it is at present plain tins year s busines and forecast for the future it is the only opportunity too to hear prospective candidates state their plat form publicly to ask questions about town business and to show your interest as a tax payer and as n town citizen newcomers to town should le particu larly anxious to attend and we urge them to do so we venture to say that there are peo pie living here who can t even recite all the councillors names let alone tell you what they look like or what department of munici pal government they control it would be a wonderful thing if tomor row s meeting would pack the library so full that the meeting would have to move to lar ger quarters it isn t impossible if even a tenth of the taxpaers appear wishes about our recovery and with cooper ation from advertisers and correspondents in submitting copy early these have been much appreciated a long with the patience of printing customers who have been held up with printing orders while the herald was short staffed with all members of the staff back to work and an extra man joining the herald we are quickly returning to normal we too are making plans to keep up with a growing town and the herald will be growing with it many gold hudtlats at guelpn festival kenneth r harrison abct is proud of the record established by his music pupils wbo
