birthday the new pupils from here to high should note blood type since assisting with a blood donation u few months ago we huvc become aware of the importance of knowing one a own bipod type it is advantageous not only to those whom we miglit aid but also to ourselves for in an emergency seconds sometimes are all important lake the case of someone with one of the rarer types of blood and our own bneg ntivc fits here lliere could le certain cir cumstances arise where blood plasma was not available or where 1 direct transfusion would he more advantageous if this should be it why not a museum here 1 a stirring plea by the orangeville ban ncr editor for a museum in that town again makes us anxious to start the lall rolling on a similar project in georgetown we suggeit that the library batcment when it is renovated would be in ideal loca tion and that a museum committee could ik- established cither as a part of the library board or as a separate group to foster the idea the orangevillc writer remarks that peo pie might sav swimming pools arenas and other public works are more important than museums yet the latter have a bearing on the culture of a community and each year lost in subdivisions dangerous last week at council meeting cr thom as lyons made some pertinent observations about limiting further housing subdivisions in town which gives food for thought we have not studied the towns economy in detail and hesitate to give any direct opin ion on how many more houses could be erec ted without upsetting the experts opinion about division of tax revenue between indus try and houses council as a whole must think more ifidustry is needed for they are assiduous in tracking down leads which will encourage industrialists to locate here yet the large scale subdividing now in progress is in direct antipathy to this for as each tract of land becomes a homesite there is less land available for industry the question of whether housing subdiv isions pay their way is again a point for de bate and can only be answered if one made an exhaustive study of the whole question to do this one must balance the tax revenue with the cost of installing water and sewer would certainly be sensible to know immed lately what t pc of blood is needed without taking a sample from the patient and to know where it could be obtained without testing a numlier of prople willing to give transfusions a simple system would be to have the information on one s motor licence and it would not be going too far to ask the govern mrnt to allow a space on the licence fur this information to le filed at a friend s sugges tion we have posted this on our pwn driver s licence where it is always readily accessible establishing them destroys priceless relics which will never again ije available a museum does not have to le a costly promsition i or a start it requires only a few citizens who will devote some lime and others who have suitable irticles of in historic nature to grt together lhe nucleus of a dls pi iv must lx gathered before it is of sufficient interest to the public to be set up if george town makes a start it could be the impetus for a someday county collection such as we hear alxiul at collingwood midland brantford jordan and in wellington services future maintenance of roads service charge on street lights school costs and the share of fire and police protection garbage collection town works staff and other mum cipal services which extra housing brings one thing we can say is that the indus trial balance would appear to be low because so many residents are earning their daily bread outside town limits there was a time a few years back when georgetown could not house all who were working here and the smith and stone plant was running daily bus service to bring workers in from neighbouring commun ities today the story is different local peopde are commuting by hundreds to mnl- ton and some to brampton and oakville georgetown is then tending to the type of dormitory community which economists worn is not financially desirable for housing on too large a scale does not pay its way un less there is a sizeable chunk of industrial as sessment to bear its share of the load pot pourri mr and mrs bud matson of brampton she is the former hazel waldie of town have been enjoying a motor trip in eastern canada and the states with
