henrys an important business change on main street this week is the an nouncement that ernie alcott has joined henry helfant as a partner in operating henrys clothing store mr helfant established the busi ness two years ago in the main st location vacated when the herald moved to its present location mr alcott a native of george town has worked on main street for sixteen years being associated for several years with brills mens department he served with the rcaf during the war and was em ployed for a short time at provin cial paper before joining the brill staff mr helfant served in the belgian underground during the war re turning to his native country after escaping from a prison camp in france he was training in england with the belgian army when the war ended he came to canada in 1946 and worked in a toronto clothing firm until establishing his own business here two years ago budget market business bought by gait man a local meat and grocery store budget market changed hands this week with the new owner joseph hohmann taking over the manage- ment yesterday it has been operated for the past three years by mr and mrs albert hills who are moving to gait to morrow though mr hills will be staying with the new owner for a dew weeks mr hills intends to enter the in surance and reil estate business in gait with a friend from his home town of highgate they are mov ing this week in order that thelr children lorraine and ronald can start school next week the family will be missed in town where they have taken an active part in church work at st johns with mr hills also a leader in boy scout work mr and mrs hohmann daugh ter barbara who will be working in the store and joseph jr a pub lic school student will live in the apartment above the store they also have a married daughter in gait and a son jack in korea with the army mr hohmann has worked for several years in gait as a weaver first at riverside silk mills and for the past year at the stauiterdobbie company hamilton early saturday morning ailing for some time with heart trouble mr llcatas death was un expected born in sicily he had been a hamilton resident most of his life operating a grocery store there until he retired a year ago he is survived by his wife one sonjr harry jjicata of the univer sity of michigan clan at ann arbor his mother mrs mary licata ham ilton brother dick and one sister mrs a supermarket two men were in town last week and it is believed that they chose a site near the highway on the eastern approach to georgetown which they will recommend as the best location the scouts glen williams and norval and two more are scheduled during the next week the 19500 truck purchased by residents of the esquesing fire area around georgetown which will be housed and manned locally arrived last friday and after a practic run around town was taken to the glen for a demonstration on monday a similar expedition was made to nor val and thursday night it will be in stewarttown next thursday september 10th a purely rural demonstration will take place at wray besseys farm on the 6th line slated for 7 pm fanners who are interested in see ing what the truck can do will ga ther there hughes were notified last week that their amplications had been accepted and they will leave for kingston later this month to commence their stu dies another graduate this year fill ing berg will also monday air jackson died at his home 23 louisa street kitchener on friday he succeeded his father as agent at norval station first working with the company at parkdale when the station was closed there he was transferred to kitchener retiring three years ago lately he had been an insurance and real estate salesman mr jackson is survived by his wife clara currie and one sister miss florence jackon
