minister gives the following sum mary the assembly was opened july 18 by mr p chapman of toronto with an address of welcome to an aud ience of 126387 in the afternoon the beautiful stagegarden provided a picturesque setting for the gradu ation exercises of the twentyfirst class of the watchtower bible school of gllead out of one hun dred and twenty seven students all graduated and received assignments to go as missionaries to many for eign lands including central and south america india africa and many parts of europe the program for each day was filled with interesting bible lec tures reports of expansion from re presentatives from the four quar ters of the earth and thrilling ex periences from the missionary field delegates were there from 87 dif ferent lands and for eight davs all enjoyed a fellowship together with out a note of discord it was sure ly a demonstration that all nations and people can and will eventually jive together in peace regardless of race colour language or custom most of the delegates were hou sed in private homes and hotels throughout greater new york and surrounding cities while some 49 000 took up temporary residence in a 200 acre tent
