winter wheat variety tests on two halton farms one acre blocks of dawsons golden chaff dawbul and cornell 595 were sown on each of the two farms the results of the test on the fred dixon farm near milton have just been released by secretary j e whitelock of the crop improvement association mr dixon combined and weighed up each variety separately his find ings were as follows dawsons golden chaff 1415 lbs dawbul 1520 lbs cornell 595 1770 lbs all three plots were each slightly under one acre in extent and fur thermore there was also a slight difference in the sizes of the three plots when these factors were ta ken into account the acreage yields for the three varieties were as fol lows dawsons golden chaff 279 bus dawbul 27 4 bus cornell 595 317 bus the second test was laid down on the farm of fred nurse near ash- grove and yields of the three varie ties will be released as soon as available project no 1 and project no s wartime houses go on sale on sep tember 1st this date was decided ty council at the regular meeting on tuesday evening mr hardy of central mortgage corporation who administer war time housing in georgetown addres sed the members o council and pointed out that project no 1 was due to go- onsale on november 1st and project no 2 on july 1st 1832 the council felt that it would be advantageous to those wishing to purchase houses if both projects were offered at the same itme thus giving the prospective buyers a chance to purchase in either pro ject at the same time it would make the properties more saleable it was pointed out that tenants have the first opportunity of pur chasing their own homes and if this is not convenient due to size of house they may switch to another house which may be on the market mr hardy assured council that ten ants would not have to move indis criminately but if they did not foal in a position to purchase would be asked to move to another wartime house shoild their property become saleable another reason for advancing the date of sale on these houses is due to the fact that moving in the cold weather would not be desirable and fall would be more convenient for all concerned the corporation receives 200 per lot when houses are sold and will receive full taxation from that time on i mr hardy could not give the sell ing price on the various size houses but said he would contact ottawa immediately in this regard a down payment of- 10 per cent is required with a balance spread over 20 to 23 years on monthly payments pay ments include principal interest insurance and taxes complete lost of the new
