and school board representatives and the north halton high school- district board with mr duffin of the depart ment of education once and for all speyside has been eliminated as a site for any central high school and in dications are that if and when the municipalities invol ved can decide on the building of such a school it will be in or close to georgetown the matter must offic ially rest until after the end of this year when- george town btecomes a member of the district efforts of the present north halton board to rush the building of a school in acton have fallen on deaf ears at the depart ment which believes that the largest municipality which isgeorgetown should havr an official voice in any page 8 each municipality has a beef s follows decision the high school situation is one of the most complex with which the department of education has had to deal embracing as it does three substantial cen tres of population yet with the two rural municipali ties providing the bulk of the financing whether the central board decides to build a school in georgetown acton silvercreek stewarttown or anywhere the last decision rests with the municipal councils who must back the debenture issue and if agreement cannot be reached there it reverts to the voters themselves who would be asked to vote on a debenture issue the least that can happen is that one school will be built acton needs this desperately and whether the present district is maintained or whether it- eventually breaks up acton must provide accommodation for her high schpol students the other two towns can if nec essary get by for a number of years though george town is badly lacking proper facilities and milton with an al building has indicated to the department that this is meant for a public school at present the most popular idea seems to be to leave the present milton school and build a second to jerve this part of the district in short term financing this might be thennost economical solution but at the same time it would defeat to some extent the purpose of high school districts which is to provide better and rhore variededucation th at present to complicat the issue still more is the belief of some officials includ- ing the auditor that the north halton municipalities have stretched their borrowing near the limit and that there is a danger that a large central school cannot be there will be a better distribution of students among the three schools as long as three schools exist the board should give serious thought to the question of transporting teachers rather than
