fhoni m gray coach lines pfybit bennett c x2eoraotown to the electors of hnt0n-7- this is tho fotirth lime i have addressed you in this manner and i om afraid it is thelftst ueforo you mukc your choice of a government on monday june 27th you have probably gathered by this time tho j i am not a profess ional politician i do not claim to be 1 do claim to know- however what the women want from gov ernment because 1 run my own home i know what the farmer wants because all my life the land has been close to me i know too what ihe businessman needs be cause as a lawyer i have been in close haueh with such matters and finally i fed i know what tho av erage workingman wants because j realize that no country can be rich and strong and advanced if he is not wellpaid for his toll- these lost few weeks have been busy ones for me going about the country visiting the women in their homes the farmers and talking to the business men and the men and women in industry these election day have been extremely enjoyable extremely in teresting ond extremely valuable whether or not i am your choice as your progressive conservative representative these have been days i will never forget 1 have met people 1 had never enough to meet be fore and i have conic to realize io 1 a very real sense what a great counly this is i despite its richness however there are many things that it needs vom a government its rural and i urban populations need many things things that they have earned and deserve i want to do my part i to sec that they get them at this time i fan mention but i bne for x have not much space i i refer to security and the benefits lumped under the heading welfare i believe and the party ot which i am a member believes that ww need health insurance accident and sickness benefits hospitalization security from unemployment and want wc believe too that every one i stress that word should get a pension at the age of 65 years- everyone receiving pensions should be allowed to keep his or her home and savings and they should be permitted if they wish to go on working so as to be able to afford added little luxuries why should wc penalize thrift it seems to me that trufl is a heartwarming program and i would be proud to play a share in putting it into effect there is just one other thing i wish to say to you now and i can not overemphasize how important i feel it is this is your vote your privilege and indeed your duty to use it naturally 1 want you to vote progressive conservative but be lieve me when i say i want you to votv no v matter what way you vote too many of us 1 am afraid tor- get how valuable the franchise really is it was won by the blood and the tears of our forefathers thousands of them died to get it the vote is our passport to demo cracy and freedom it must be used v it is to remain valid its power will vanish if it is not exercised iand have you ever thought of this the only people who can logically criticize a government are c those who used their votes those who would not take the little time h requires have no one to blame but themselves if they do not like the government they get- and now if 1 may 1 would like to address a few words to the wom en of hnlton- i appeal to you to vote not to shrug off your duty by saying that it is enough that your husband is using his ballot and please vote as you wish find out the issues and then make your own choice wo women hove tremendous pow er and influence having approxi mately 04 per cent of the vote but we must use it wo merit representation in gov ernment for with our experience in running the homes of the nation with the constant challenge of pro vidlng families with the best in life and often with pitiable small sums of money w have acquired a sense of thrift that is too often lacking in politics u so i sayonce again plaase vote in conclusion i would like to thank you all whether or not you were in sympathy with my political views ybu always gave ma a polite hearing and for that i win always be grateful there is much i want to say but i find i can sum it up in one simple word farmers working seir is- all do with bennett o lets give haltona clean sweep vote
