secton of the editors column mrs bede 1 wi h her daughter joyce haa 3 returned from a bus trip to sornvand in pasang through doof towns n their five thousand mile trip she says there are very w whtch can equal the scenic beau of georgetown fw mstorice as you enter the town from acton there he ah of blutful maples past p mccullough s farm then the wild beauty of wldwood and over the sow of the white bridge we see our beautiful rnonu- men in memory of the fallen heroes of two wars h t wh tl attractive shops the other the nignwuy wm see on either side rght to the edge of town where 3 the dominion seed house with t acres of flow ering splendour even more outstanding since the re mo al of outgrowing trees and shrubs we have grand old churches lovely homes old and new a park which s second to none 1 recall hearing some while ago that 73 per cent of our people ojwn their own home and that is somethmg to be proud of we have fine tax service good bus and rail connections even a us customs which we prefer to forget at times all this says mrs bedell leads up to what s mv beef we lack tourist accommodation and adver tising for such most of all we lack photographs of our scenc town people from othrr countries and travellers from distant points in the dommon passing through or visiting look for cards portraying scenes ot interest or when someone is away from home and talks about the beauty of georgetown your friends ask you to send them some cards to show what you ve been raving about vc hat happens i he postcards in the stores when available are old and out of date and show very tew of the tree lined streets and dozens ot things which arc interesting pictorial material why doesnt some local photographer look into this it might be a profitable sideline beaut v is everywhere in this great country of ours and it can be shared with everyone if we capture it on postcards to mail to friends and shut ins pot pourr1 georgetown has something new this year skating in october the artificial ice plant in the arena is now proving its worth and skaters no longer have to gp to guelph or toronto to enjov their pre season skating rumours around town on saturday of a hockey game that night had no foundations other than the fact that the hockey club had discussed the matter earlier in the week but felt it was a little too early in the season for a game president ken mcmillan won t be devoting all his energies to hockey until later this month after he returns from a trip to the international livestock exposition in chicago ken and glad will take in a hors- show at port 1 luron en route caldwell a r ataurant had a super shell- out for the kids on hallow n a tiny wooden doll car riage filled with candies and did you notice the giant pumpkin in tbe window of licatas truit store speaking of licatas window a giant vegetable marrow which appeared there laat week was well over a yard long and weigh d seventy lbs it was grown by meadowglen growi rs and will be used for aeed i here a a good opening for a used trunk business in town when bill iennant advertised for a couple of trunks recently he got over ten replies and they are still coming in itie debonaires are an upandcoming dance band and received many congrat ulations on their fine work at the lions masquerade on friday the dance itself was a huge success to our way of thinking reta maws personification of the georgetown sewerage system was the beat coatume we have seen in many a year there is talk of having this years remembrance commemoration on the proper day november llth rather than on the nearest sunday as has been customary in the past there should be some straws in tire wind soon with nomination day drawing close up to the present no council member has officially declined to run though two or three have said privately that they do not in tend to contest a seat this year incidentally we hope some publicspirited citizens are giving thought to standing for election to the new board of education which will replace the two present bodies at the start of the new year keep abreast of the news slibscribe frepuldrly tiytkheratd ingenuity a new slant can be devjsed for almost
