association and the ontario quebec division of the cwjma street numbering reqljirepi a- growing town particularly one such as gcorger town whbse streets are not laid put on the square brings continuous new problems those o a major character sewerage hew streets hydro and water service are dealt with by council in the normal course of events and minor changes are sometimes overlooked andeg- lecteslmerely because they are never brought into pro minence a subscriber has pointed out that it is be coming increasingly difficult for strangers to find their way around town and anyone who is asked as we of ten are to direct people to certain streets and houses will agree that a system of numbered houses would be a great help we can recall that a few years ago the job was tackled by an itinerant salesman who became discouraged part way through and left town after sell ing numbers to a few householders the trouble of course was that this gentleman had no proper survey on which to base his numbering and lacked local sup port there are two ways that the problem can be tack led one is for council to contract for the job out of the public treasury the other for council to hire a rep utable firm preferably local to take on the job as a private enterprise prerequisite to both plana is for council to number all lots in town so that numbering will bfe permanent and accurate at the same time streets should have signs to make them easily discern ible a family night there was a world of truth in the suggestion by tory gregg speaking at the lions hockey night that parents should set aside one night in the week as family night to be spent with their children it is all too true that the majority of men nowadays and particularly in a busy town like georgetown dont become acquain ted with their children in the morning dad hurries off to work at noon he is home but briefly for his dinner and in the evening if he does stay in he is inclined to settle down in a comfortable chair with pipe and paper and chase the kids into the kitchen where mother in turn who has had plenty of time to ge acquainted with them through the day shoos them into the back yard orxmtonjlustrfujwhjlejhedoe8 the dis a little effort on dads part to postpone his relaxation for an ence in home life hour while he has a game of catch or works a puzzle or reads a story to junior will make a wonderful differ- tory also took a dig at parents who never go out to watch their children play hockey or ball and said this was unforgiveable to anyone interested in raising their children to be good citizens here interest must be tempered with caution while it is nice to show a heal thy interest in the familys outside activities it is not wise to overdo it for junior at his games is learning to stand on his own feet and should not always expect dad to be too close in the background to help him fight his battles however the paucity of grownups at minor hockey fixtures in georgetown this winter does not indicate that any boy in georgetown is suffering from an overdose of parental interest potpourri nice to see our fishing reporter george hoare back on the job thia week and he inaugurated the 1 948 season with a particularly interesting column keep them coming george i a bad soot on the connecting link opposite the golf course on maple ave- ftuejbijexngjpajredand
