1947 ro yal intercounty live stock judging halton second the annual intercounty live stock judging competition open to teams of three young men under 26 years of age brought together en tries from 29 ontario counties the 87 noting men each judged and pave oral reasons on ten classes in all these included hereford hei fers angus steers holstein cows jersey heifers clyde geldings per- cheron mares suffolk ewes south- down lambs yorkshire sows and yorkshire gilt the jeffrey bull memorial tro phy emblematic of the champion ship went to durham county who scored 2641 out of a possible jj00o ham particularly so when one realizes that this was the first occasion the beaty herd has competed at this major show holstein show the the the champion dairy cattle club teams from eight provinces of can ada fought it out at the royal oh monday of last week ontario was represented by henk devrles and david pelletterio members of the milton boys and girls holstein calf club who were declared onta rio champions a few weeks ago at the provincial contest at guelph these young people had to judge and give oral reasons on four clas ses of dairy cattle one each of hol- steins ayrshires jerseys and guernseys in addition they orally answered ten questions pertaining to feeding and management of dairy cattle club work etc the i ontario team placed second to sas katchewan who were the winners with the quebec team in third place henk devrles was 8rd high individual halton may well be proud of her two sons who made such a fine showing as ontario rep resentatives the remainder of the week the boys along with the con testants participating in the various projects from all provinces of can ada enjoyed the fruits of their la bours by visiting points of interest in toronto niagara falls and ot- the grain club mem bers section we noted fine entries from geo wilson of georgetown and geo burkholder of freeman but unfortunately judging was not as yet completed the horse show at night contin ues to pack them in and the large coliseum was practically sold out before the show got under way here we noted the fine entries of mr and mrs ken mcmillan of georgetown old halton and sir david with mrs mcmillan at the reins put on a crowd pleasing dis play and constituted the top cana dian entry in the ring on this oc casion the judging of the heavy horses and various breeds of beef cattle will be
