ceilings lifted on feed cfain and meats i on tuesday evening of last week i while big meeting in che milton town hall sponsored by tne halton federation ot agriculture was ion sklerlng the feed grain situation an announcement came over the air stating the policy ol the federal government on the subject while the action of the federal authorities does not altogether meet with the reooannendaitlon of the meeting in question it at least clarifies the si tuataon to some extent maiky hal ton famera view wtth apprehension the future relationship ot livestock prices to feed grain frankly it does not look very encouraging to those i who are faced with the necessity of buying feed grain to cany their present livestock holdings however we would do well to remember that we have weathered worse situations in the past four or five decades and while some may be forced to reduce their livestock holdings past history reveals that when the general ten dency is to unload that is the time to sit tight and if possbde increase present inventories in our opinion if at all possible we would do well to act cautiously and try and look at the matter from a long time ra tfaer than an immediate viewpoint true this is easier said than done if one has a lot of hogs and poultry and no feed nevertheless the whole economic wellbeing of oanada nec essitates the- retention of the british export market for our surplus bacon and eggs there is a feeling too on the part of some members of the gram trade that feed grain prices will in the course of a few weeks level out the scarcity of cast to bring down feed grain from the head of the lakes now that naviga tion is closed also presents a serious problem it is to be hoped that our transportation authorities will do ev- erylmng in their power to grant priorities for grain shipments what the future holds no one can tell but it would seem good business if at all possible to delay any imme diate reduction in our livestock hol dings r w robb
