reflected glory of one of its ladies who has the singular honour of being the 4th canadian woman lawyer to be made a kings counsel it is a double honour for the firm of dale bennett in that both members of the partner ship have been singled out for tjiis highest award to their profession miss benrgttrnoestly choses to cojder this as fioreader recognition of two things the risng place of women in the business and professional world and the importance of the rural jawyer in community life she feels that it should be considered as an award to the women of halton county and is happy in the fact that as a native haltonian of several generations she should be resident in the county when her new title was con ferred we should like to return miss bennetts com pliment and say that as an individual she quite merits the title rcc in many appearances before the bar and on the public platform and in her capacity as solici tor for the town of brampton she has shown her cap ability to do a mans job and do it well on occasion we have heard comments that she should enter public life still more by standing as a candidate in provincial or federal politics perhaps some day we shall yet see her carry the name of halton further afield and mean while we extend the communitys heartiest felicitations on her newlyacquired title why another victory loan the announcement that canadas 9th victory loan will open on october 22nd should not come as a surprise to any thinking citizen to be sure the war is over and victory won and the end of hostilities means the end of many war costs no longer are planes ships and tanks bombs and ammunition neces sary but in their place are new needs new financial outlays for instance men in hundreds of thousands must be brought back to canada from overseas the hundred odd georgetown men who have returned are only at the most a third of the total to come mean while those still in the army must be paid fed housed and clothed the wounded and sick must be restore to health gratuitiesnd reestablishment credits trade training and other rehabilitation outlays involve many millions of dollars then too people in wartorn coun tries need food and clothing and canada with the other united nations is making gifts of essential supplies to these people canada is also lending mney to coun tries to help them buy supplies in canada these tasks and thess needs are reasons why canadas borrowing requirements for the next year must remain at a high lev- even though direct war costs have declined they are reasons why we will be asked once more to
