american falls has a crest of 1000 feet and the fall is 167 feet it is two miles from the falls vitbe whirlpool and the fall in this two miles is only one foot the aver age depth though is 190 feet jn the mile that is known as the whirlpool rapids the fall is o2 feet and the whirlpool itself has a depth of 125 feet it is 11 miles from the whirlpool j lake ontario and the riyer in tins stretch has an average depth of 100 feet and a total fall of 47 feet the hydro have two power houses abeve the falu and they takt their water from the river in the gpper rapids and return it to the river be fore it flows over the falls another power house is situated right below the fans and it gets its power from water taken above the falls and returned to lhe river below the falls the power house that is located at queenston andwhich is known as the omppawa power development takes its water from the river at chlppawa which is aboye the falls and is located at the month oflhe wellanri hiver ttip of 16 fet and they are 388 feet la length the normal head of water at queenston is 315 feel and under full loa 1 it is 294 feet we have been shown all througl this power plant and you too might be niagara falls and is delivered to the power plant at queenston this canal is twelve ano three quarter miles long and at its deepest cut has a depth of 143 feet the water in this canal has a depth of lrom 30 to 38 feet and this water ls delivered into a forebay a tlie queen ston end of the canals which is six acres in extent and has a depth of 28 ieet we have mentioned this chlppawa power house at queenston in this col nmn on several occasions however we mav not have mentioned the pen stocks that deliver the water from tlie forobuy to the turbines there are ten main penstocks and one service
