samples of milk from the pasteurization plants regularly to the laboratories or the department of health at toronto for tests the per capita consumption of 8 pints of milk added to which is canned milk and milk products is a high stun dard of milk consumption there are however families who use less milk than is necessary for health it is considered that adults should con sume at least l pint and children l to 2 pints of milk dally all in georgetown are now assured of a these can be grouped under three headings 1 complaints due to faulty disposal of sewer material 3 complaints due to fautly disposal of garbage material 3 miscellaneous complaints ag street dust nonreporting of com municable disease breaking of quar antine infestation of homes with er- mln etc improper living conditions etc 1 faulty disposal of sewer material this is becoming an increasingly worrying problem 90 of all com plaints received by yourboard of health are concerned with overflow ing cesspools and septic tanks with consequent unsightllness foul odours attraction of flies and contamination of ground they are a definite source of disease cases are encountred where little can be dose to remedy the condition dr a el berry chief sanitary engineer of the ontario de partment of health addressed the town council in september and seat ed that a sewer system was long over due in georgetown he recommend ed that- such an installation be seri ously considered the firm of hagey gray plun- kett ltd consulting engineers were engaged by the town council to make a compelte survey of the town this summer to draw plans and sub mit an estimate of cost this was done and the plans submitted to the ontario deportment ot health whsre they were approved it was found that the terrain was exceptionally well adapted for such an installation and that the cost is moderate for this reason all that remainsis for au thority to be given to commence the work it is probable that ratepayers will have an opportunity to vote upon this proposed improvement early in 1939 2 faulty disposal of garbage ma terial it is recommended that at some future time a municipal system of garbage collection and disposal be inaugurated a few householders continue to be careless about the dis posal of their garbage but fewer com plaints have been received this year about garbage being left on unau thorised lots rie munioipej dump- and adenoids were removed at too hospital for sick orntdren health work is being carried on in the municipality by agencies othtr than the board of health as follows the women institute and local council of women have contributed time and money 4oward the bar nose and throat clinic they may have the satisfaction of knowing that practically every child who has been given special attention through this clinic has been healthier and happier since the lions club in collaboration with the department of health have undertaken a survey of teeth of every child in the public school they have outlined a very ambitious jfcograin which win be of great value to he dental health of the school in addition to these organisations our 1938 activities would have been impossible
