a contest with limestone beh pinegrove palermo and omagb all oneroom schools pal ermo came second winning the silver shield presented by the womens in stitute of mount dnlqn acton came first in the boys choir contest the 30 members of that body responding perfectly to the leader second prize went tq milton whose chpir had 24 members burlington was the other entry in the contest the intermediate choir cup for two to four room schools was won by bronte burlington came second to win the burlington iode shelld milton captured the cup for senior choirs and acton the shelld frances chlsholm acton and masie hall burlington and mary feller geo- rgetownwon the gold and silver shields as solists in the class for girls under 12 in the same class for boys the winners were vernon agnew acton and grant praser muton the senior girls solo competition was won by jessie bullock of bs no 2 trafalgar with peggy gilliam of bronte second medals for senior boys were won fay william hall acton and kenneth galloway of milton basil passant of burlington placed third georgetown school choir sang nicely and although they were not fortunate enough to win one of the prizes we are still proud of them manufactures life son of mrs a mokechnle georgetown vicepresident and general manager ager of the manufacturers life insurance co and one of the best- known residents of forest hill vil lage james b mckechnle died sud denly last week at his home 34 hillhotaie rd on returning at a late hour from the granite club where he had been playing badminton he was born at wuuton ont jn 1883 and was educated at the public and high schools of that town graduating from queens university in 1903 where he was university medallist in mathematics he entered the manufacturers life as a clerk in the actuarial department becoming actuary in 1009 he was appointed assistant manager in 1915 and in the following year general manager he became a director of the company in 1917 t mr mckechnle was a former pres ident of the canadian life insurance officers association the dominion mortgage and investments associa tion and the insurance institute of toronto he was a fellow of the actuarial society of america and the institute of actuaries of great britain other organizations to which he belonged were the univer sity toronto and granite clubs and the toronto qolf and royal canadian yatch club since moving from streetsville to forest hill village he had attended orace church on the hill surviving are his widow formerly phoebe louise adams of hanover whom he married in 1815 and two young children alexander and eliza beth his mother mrs alexander mckechnle has been an esteemed res ident of georgetown for some years a brother john h mckechnle is school inspector in reglna and two sisters mrs
