autocrat and a fugitive from justice able to command 10 000 for his photograph while a child ib able to exact ten thousand bucks for the tpromise to appear before the camera a th are only two instaavmi of many attesting the fact that it is high time the world got back to a sensible money valne of things- and more espeo tally as these effect entertainment which has simply gone mad as to an appreciation of true aloes many busikrhk kikmh uae a real problem on tbeir hands of how best to prevent people calling tbeir employees to the telephone to gossip or diatuas affairs not con with tbe business if the public would onl realise that telephone culls during business hours ahpuld be confined to buui ness matters only many business headtr would bless the day when this fact flratawoed upon them the extbnt to vhk a the pub lic is being exploited advantage being taken of the weakness of the public when it comes to gratifying its cunoqs 1 ty orsatisfjing its de sire for entertainment isabown in tbe payment or 10 000 for a copyrighted photograph of tbe ex f germany and an agree le n it ib to be feaeed that there are too many motorists who have come to regard the roadways as tbeir own with the result that they apparently do not care about adopting any precautions bo far as they are concerned with regard to pedestrian traffic either at or in between street intersecti odd such a man recently was fined 10 and costs at ottawa for running past a crossing at an unsafe pace wonder how nany motorists would have to appear at the police oourt if such a law was enforced here possibly many drivers are in ignorance of tbe enactment which provides two important pro visions with reference to the rate of speed within the town limits the first is that nb street intersec tion where there ib not a clear view o0approaching traffic shall be crossed at greater speed than 10 miles per hour tbe second and moot important is that even ten miles per hour ma not be at tamed unless tbe nature and con dition and tbe amount of traffic shall permit of same section or clause 11 makes it a punishable offence to drive a motor vehicle recklessly or negligntly or in a manner which is dangerous to the public having regard to all tbe circnmbtanoes including the oat- are condition and ase of the high way and the amount of traffic which actual jb at the time on the highwai tbe provisions of the law with regard to safety reg nlations for cities and towns should be strictly enforced a montrealer claims to be able to make leather out of soaps come to think of it it is really wonderful bow manj things bave originated out of scraps walking aiong math pthebt the otber evening as two young fellows were passing we caught the followiog remark tbis a helluva town the lad in ques tion is a native of this section laa not in all probability seen any larger place unless he has visited ottawa just what bis complaint against this helluva town is we don t know and be in all probability don t know him self but be wanted to oonvej to bib companion the impression that be was a little faster than the town in all probability the same young man refers to bis parents as old man or old woman and if in company a little bettertban he is used to would be aahanlad to notioe or acknowledge his par ents what we desire to point out is that history confirms tbe fact that most of tbe great men who have lived came from small communities asa matter of fact small communities how the same varieties of human nature of good and of evil that you find in larger centres and the use made of them depends on tbe individual and not 00 tbe place it is not a differ eoce in quality but a difference of quantit georgetown has sent out from its home some very bright mindft oung men who are making a name and place fpr tbem setvos in the larger commboities we are proud of them and the are proud to acknowledge george town as their home town the joung man or young woman who rnns down the home town con demn themselves and leave a verj poor impression loyalty to your home titwn is a trait of character that means mocb more than ap pears on the surface and the lack of it shows a very miserable if not contemptible fpint the greatest man id england or for that mat ter in the world wan brought up in a small communit and learned his lessons at tbe aide of tbe shoe repair work bench of bis uncle lloyd george was neier ashamed to acknowledge his good old uncle nor ever referred to his borne town as a hell ova town
