shirts the reds kicked ott after a lot of good plays by both teams the white goalkeeper made a terrific save on a drive by john foley both goalies were having a good night in their nets john walsh scoted the first goal ipr the white shirts unassisted the red team began pressing for the etraajizer and had some success with good headers in the white end- but just couldnt finish off their twy v v the first 45 minutes ended with the white team one upon the v red- j in the second half after three minutes of play r smith scored for the whites on some lovely plays- from fu mammates twd minutes the lop half of the first inning for lions and the team failed to bring home a run sportss comer followed suit with one hit by k swan and the team went back in the field with no runs in the second inning b vinski came home for lions first point before the team went down in the bottom of the second a carnegie made a great catch in centre field on a fly by m gow to give lions the bat again jtschultis scored a run in the third and t mclntyre in the fourth john mccutcheon made a beautiful line drive catch to end the first half of the fourth lions put on the power play in the fifth b mcgilloway a foul first final for acton ladies the girls just werent with it sighed coach charlie thomson after acton ladies lost their first game of the playoffs to burlington 1s1i on monday night poor charlie had to round up a ninth player before the game could get underway thats rough on a coach and rough on the team he added burlington rammed in three runs in the top of the first all on walks b ferguson came home for actons first run then j braids fouled out j fletcher was out at first and b macdougall out for the top of the second the home team held butlington in check with no runs p wheeler and s mcgilloway brought the score to 32 by the end of the second then burlington lowered the power they rammed home su runs on three hits before retiring to the field acton failed to get a run joanne fletcher caught a line drive over her head from buiungtons dawson in the fourth the fifth and sixth innings were actons best they managed three runs in each going into the final inning the score was burlington 13 acton 10 burlington chalked up two more runs before giving up the bat acton just couldnt seem to come back p wheeler made it home before the team went down to make the final score burlington 1 5 runs on seven hits and acton 1 1 runs on 1 1 hits bonnie macdougall pitched a good game for acton with seven strikeouts burlingtons lefthanded pitcher humby got three susan mcgilloway and bonnie macdougall hit doubles for acton the game was the first in a two out of thtee series the second game will be played in lowville park wednesday night if acton can win that one the final will be back in acton monday september 2 at least part of actons problem was the fact that the team hasnt played a game since the first of august because opposing teams have failed to show up they havent been able to practice since then either carnegie r strachyra and t mclntyre made it over home plate to put lions ahead 70 in the bottom of the last inning with two batters already down first of final series in sports comer took a beating 112 from lions club last tuesday night in the first game of the finals in minor hardball it was a lions game all the way sports corner scored two runs in the first inning on 2 walks by k crosken and j stachyra and a single by r swan then lions came on strong in the bottom half of the first they drove home six runs on seven hits at the top of short strokers as most made unsuccessful attempts to fish out the white menace one golfing stalwart paid a little extra and rented the electric golf cart engaged a score keeper and away he ufgnt turkosz flied out to right field at bat for the second time station began to move andy williams knocked out a double to score pete homer and brian farrell at the end of two innings it was station 2 herbs 1 in the third inning herbs was powerless rick coe was out at first and george ruddei and don archibald fouled out however station look a break in the bottom half of the third as well jan riddall and john dunn managed singles but no runs were scored the fourth inning was as boring as the third herbs went down one two three and station followed suit in the fifth it was the same story for herbs no hit and no runs station advanced by two runs by jan riddall and george williamson jan riddall and brian farrell scored in the sixth station put on the power play in the bottom of the seventh john dunn hit a single and a double al mcnab made a single and got on base by an error to short stop peter holmes had two singles brian farrell a double doug ford a double and a single ed smith made a tremendous triple lo right field john dunn stole third base during the inning by the end of play station had chalked up 12 runs on l hits lo bring the score lo 181 at the top of the eighth rick coe singled george rudder was put out al first and rick advanced to second then al mcnab killed herbs hopes by catching a beauty of a line drive by don archibald which caught rick coe trying to make it back lo second for the third out for the bottom half of the eighth pete marzo went in to pilch for herbs jan riddall came crashing home piling into catcher george rudder rudder had his face cut by the mask ed smith followed riddall home for another run but with rudder bleeding over the plate station decided to call a haul to the slaughter final scores leave station with 20 runs on 20 hits herbs 1 run on s hits station pitcher ed smith played an excellent game doug vickery pitched a good game also but he just ddn t have the support behind him to make it count he showed 100
