band when it played a concert here sev eral wceki ntfo thu article com prised a column colled vox-pop- pinn in the swift current news paper aiid was written by dave bel beck the letter in which the item was enclosed again thanked axton cit izens band for the reception the swift current band had in acton it was felt this clipping would be of reneral interest to those who heard the concert riven here sev eral weeks ago it read ns fol lows east is east ive already com mitted myself to the opinion that eastern people are pretty swell folks but i ennt say the same for them m an official capacity i believe unreservedly that in n position where the east is opposed to the west in competition theyre easterners nil the way through and nothing could have shown k up any clearer than the band com petition where the west blew notes with two eastern entries in the sports vernacular i think we wuz and i claim the right to this opinion in spite of that which might be held by say bandmaster charlie war tour manager irving hansen or anyone else who witnessed the competition to start with swift current had the smartestlooking band on the grounds this opinion was shared by dozens of ontario people who i heard pass their opinion on th matter their uniforms were out standing far more colorful and much neater kept than those worn by any other band and their in struments looked like they had just been unpacked from the factory polished to a tee and shining t the brilliant morning sunlight the band was the epitome of military precision as with drums rolling it marched smartly onto the bandstand and took up its play ing position the boys gave you the feeling that they were proud to wear the swift current uniform and that you should be proud to claim such a prideful place as 1 home consensus was that swift current was the band to bent no wonder the audience was stunned when the marks were r- 1 leased and i mean that literallv i think you could have heard a pin i drop on the grass for two full sec- i onds after the judos spokesman s l martin bounds of london i ont announced tffe decision i know members of the band and their hometown supporters felt not only disillusionod but down right disgusted with the marks it was preposterous that there should have been 22 points between bur lington who won with 248 points and swift current marked ai 225 the london entry was given 238 points 12i higher than swift current i said it at the time and i say it again here for my money the london band was out of us class how it ever got 12 points j more than our boys will remain i to me one of those deep eastern secrets it may be unsportonanlike to i cry over spilled milk but i think we had a ringer slipped over us at the cpie had the judges justi- fled their criticism fas thev did in other competitions throughout the day the apparent discrepancy in the marks might have been under- stundable but thev failed to do this leaving us with nothing but our ears and to our ears swift current sounded like champ inns it was a long wav to travel m buck a closed eorporation an 1 o tlnd it out thit it takes more than talent to win from the enst technique vital in ousting spots in removing the ink tipuu from ftihrirs it nint what you cio itn the way ymi d it mnmt of ttie following treatments are based on the principle of mov ing tin treating solution through the fabric so the dissolved ink is carried iiway and the fresh solution ran attack the remaining ink for permanent ink kinse the swt under running wnter until no more ink is coming out then place a pad of absorbent material tinner tin hmil and drop lemon juice or citric acid t ier cent solution on the spot moving the pad from time to tune rinse with clear water nrxl step involves a percolating technique place the material over a howl and slowly pour warm soap- mids ihinugh tlie tpnt if tiie spot r on wool alpaca or silk use a tieteigint instead nf soap if there is slill some discoloration place the material over a howl and peicolnte warm glycerine or ethy lene glycol through the spot bunc with a glass rod oiyrfalnl steel spoon rinse ihorpkghly with clear water for spots rrfade by washable ink follow the above directions but om it the lemon juice treatment as a last resort for persistent slams in white material only you iriy soak in a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide and household ammonia rinse again with clear water since some fabrics hold ink with a remarkable tenacity you may find that there is still some discolor ation after the above treatments in that case you leave it to a pro fessional spot remover or dry clean er explaining what treatments you have used every time wo sit down to breakfast there are 70000 more mouths to bo fed than there were on the previous morning from an address by nik co vol
