presenting a flag at the cenotaph about 23 members were present in spite of the rain comrade padre rev e a brooks was in charge of the dedica tion of the flag which was presented by president comrade george mus- selle and in dedicating the padre said brethren in the lord for as much i men st all times have nude for themselves signs and emblems of their allegiance to their rulers and of their duty to uphold these laws and institutions which gods providence has called us to obey we following this natural and pious custom and re membering that god himself led his people israel by a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day are met together before god to ask his bleating on this flag which is to represent to us our duty to him and to our country let us therefore pray almighty cod of hand on the flag tho padre continued saying in the faith of jesus christ we dedicate this flag that it may be a sign of our duty to god and to our country in the name of the father son and holy spirit amen the flag was then affixed to the flagpole lanyard and slightly elevated the padre offered two more prayers and the flag was raised to the top of the pole the hymn o god our help in ages past was was the son of mr nnd mrs edgar nelson and besides the parents two little sisters remain barbara nged six and beverley joyce almost a year old many friends sympathize with them and the grand parents mr and mrs alfred mar shall in their tragic sorrow the funeral of little kenneth was held on monday afternoon with a ser vice at the johnstone rumley fun eral home conducted by rev a w fosbury meeting mrs e lambert was hostess to acton branch of the womens insti tute when the losing side entertained the winners the president was in charge and roll call was answered by a new member since august is the picnic month mrs f anderson and mrs e lambert were appointed to arrange the entertainment part of this event following the business part of the meeting several games of bingo were enjoyed and joyce lambert gave an instrumental number which was en- joyed mrs lambert served a dainty lunch at the meetings conclusion and a socisl time was enjoyed naskagnweya iownship council association a annual outdoor training project was carried out at blue springs scout reserve over tho recent holiday weekend although the attendance was not as great as had been anticipated due to the changing of the dominion day holiday eight patrols representing scout troops of oakvllle acton brampton and rockwood registered with camp chief commissioner george mason at the opening cere monies on the saturday afternoon upon entering the gates of the re serve the patrols were given their initial inspection by commissioner david johnston of the lakeshore district who acted as chief observer for the course mr johnston was as sisted by a group of outoftown scoutera who carried on inspections during the entire weekend once the patrols had been assigned to their camp sites traditional blue springs weather set in and rbe boys spent their first night under canvas and all the next day in a heavy downpour although rain necessi tated jioldlng the first campfire and sunday morning scouts own service indoors it challenged tho full re sources of all teams competing for u standard in good camping rpremmts m goed opportunity a camping competition as carried on at tho commandoree presents to a boy an excellent opportunity for training in woodcraft physical de velopment initiative and selfreliance carried out under the direction of a staff of scout leaders with years of experience in various phases of scouting the camp is well supervised nt all turn yet the patrol leader and his little group of boys are left entirely on tin ir own as far as pos sible from time to time throughout tho ontlre week end camp situ inspec tions were held under tho following classifications personal inspe tlon use of camp site equipment food safety nnd sanitntlon leadership nnd organisation ingenuity nnd or iginality and patrol enterprise eat h camp observer carried score sheets for t uch patrol taking part and patrols were graded following each inspection grades wore marked a b or c according to whether the patrol was excellent good or fair in the opinion of the scouters at tho closo of tho camp tho pa trols were given crests denoting the final standing they had achieved this form of scouting has been hailed by both provincial and dom inion headquarters as one of the fin est methods of boy training real commando training the new inovatlon in scout camp ing commando training tactics was introduced by district commissioner w georgo mason of acton in ordor to combine a good uptodato physical training program with the camping and scoutcraft projects a special commandoree course was set up and one of the main features of the weekend was ah afternoon race over the many obstacles balancing rails water hazards scal ing walls stepping stones ditches overhead ladders and fence vaults composed a very trying test yet one which any toenaged boy would wel come as a chance to work off that extra vitality in producing the com mandoree halton county has utilized the physical developing
