were mr george soper mrs folster miss daisy folster of acton mr and mrs david folster and master john or niagara falls mrs h b mccutcheon and mr and mrs t altkens and family of ospringe limehouse fcurlengton an excellent program and social even ing was held at the home or dr and miss sutherland oa friday night last under the auspices of the womens aux iliary or the presbyicrian church the feature or the evening was the draw that took place for a monogram quilt with about 130 names mr alfred mar shall or toronto held the lucky number mr mark given attended brampton fair on saturday and in spite of the down pour ot rain during the afternoon had his span of hackney horses in four classes winning first two seconds and a third other exhibitors from this locality won a number of prizes and every class had plenty of competition on tuesday of this week esquesing school fair was held at umehouse school the weather was ideal and a tremendous croud turned out estimated at something over 500 people never before has there been such an interest taken in preparing and bringing the many entries in each class grain and corn provided 8 classes and some of the classes had as many as 15 entries pota toes roots and vegetables had 8 classes and it required one whole table to hold the many excellent specimens never before have so many flowers been shown and competition was keen in every class there being 6 classes in this department poultry had 6 classes and some splendid birds were exhibited there were 4 classes la the live stock department nnri some excellent animals well trained were shown toy 5 boys and one little girl mr herb cooks little girl wonr flrst place in this group fruit and to matoes also had a tremendous entry there were only 5 classes in this group and in some classes as many as 20 entries garden products were also well represented there being 5 classes citrons in this class had 37 entries with 6 prizes offered pumpkins about the same writing art domestic science sewing manual training and collections all had heavy entries and provided the judges with plenty of work in the short time at their disposal weed naming story telling and showmanship competi tions provided a real entertainment and a big program of sports were run off with points awarded the school with the most winners the parade and physical culture exercises were an interesting part of the program and points were awarded each school taking part the list of winners in all the classes will be found elsewhere in this issue rev mr stephenson was assisted on sunday last at the united church ser vice by rev mr burwill of toronto who spoke on temperance there win be no preaching service for the next two sundays on account of anniversary ser vices in churchill next sunday and at glenwllliams the following sunday both morning and evening the womens institute are preparing a county exhibit with each branch mak ing a contribution and will toe shown at milton fair on saturday church when the rev mr strachan of owen sound will be the minister for the day monday evening following a fowl supper is being served in eden mills town hall congratulations to actons twentyfirst fair held last week accompanied with splendid autumn weather enabling all to turn out and make the show a success exhibits in all classes were of a high class and type which proved that all who had a share in contributing their products were not lacking in efforts and time to put before the public on view in the hall and elsewhere about the fair grounds the program given tuesday evening in the arena was of a variety to suit the big gathering and was proof that variety is the spice of life the attractions wednesday on the ground along the midway were well patronized and one feature of the fair was the ferrls wheel which provided thrills for those who took advantage of a ride and in the opinion of one who went up in the air could not help but feel it was hilari ous a few visitors in our midst last week were miss ella hamilton of hamilton misses mae and myrtle watson and mr mclvln watson of pickering miss edna m pearen of dundas was home for the weekend i sunday visitors at the home of mrs e
