game it acton lost the first gamejbf the league this year on saturday to milton by the score of 76 milton can really thank mr randall president at the halton county league and who resides in mllton their win before the game he barred roy anil fred leader and homer berscht three regulars on the acton lineup from playing and sub stitutes had to be put in disorganizing the whole team at that milton had a very close shave and were lucky to scrape through with a win duggle cnnjtkfoael got his leg hurt and had to keepwpaymgasctherewas nooneto replace him why mr randall ruled the players off nobody special mention was made by the inspector of the outstanding success in music made by acton school under mrs moore the work of the teachers was found satisfactory and the inspec tor complimented the board that further reductions in salary had not been made the board agreed to hold the next meeting on monday evening july 11 makes the following comment the mitchell male quartette again took part in the service at knox presbyterian church on sunday evening their ap pearance on this occasion was in res ponse to requests from many who heard them sing on a former occasion in addition to the congregation a large number of visitors were present from other religious denominations in town included in the quartettes repertoire of musical selections was dvoraks going home a repeat number asked for by musiclovers in town who heard it at the quartettes previous appearance other numbersgivenwere a solo rock of ages by mr dalton davidson second bass a duett hold thou my hand dear lord by mr franklyn moore first tenor and mr john skinner second tenor and a quartette number re member me o mighty one the mitchell singers have entrenched them selves in the hearts of local lovers of good were- prominently displayed and the price tickets of the same colors readily point ed the way fg the festival ofbargalns prepared for the shoppers the strings of colored electric lights on mill street added to the attractiveness of the event on both friday and saturday evenings acton citizens band provided a concert at the sunderland house grounds that was grdatly enjoyed the ball game be tween acton and milton on saturday afternoon was a feature also that brought many to town and provided an item of real interest the drawing for the lucky prize num bers was a feature of interest to all and in which all- had an equal chance twentyfive dollars in cash was ready for disposition among the shoppers who held the lucky tickets procured on pur chases during the two days shortly after ten oclock june 8 the semi- annual meeting of halton county loyal orange association was held in the lodge room at hornby there was a large attendance of delegates nearly every lodge in the county sending re adam wood mr mclean polled a total vote of 546 as compared with 316 for john grieve only other candidate for the reeveshlp the contest in which an unusually heavy vote was polled was one of the keenest seen in eramosa township in many years john hlndley was elected to fill a r on the township council caused by mr mcleans resignation he de- f eated the other council candidate wm j plnkney by
