Several Whitby athletes are among the 1,000 from Central Ontario who will receive 1987 Athlete Achievement awards from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation.
Awards are given for championship performance in amateur sports at national, international and world levels of competition.
Whitby’s dynamic Loris, swimmer Lori Melien and gymnast Lori Strong won awards, Melien for national performance and Strong for national and international performance. Strong will participate in the Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea, in the fall, while Melien is training hard to earn a berth on the Canadian team that will make the trip.
