Final score was Lav- Warn- monte, Carbonne, Antonelli, eretto, Lefebvre, Derretto, er, Spettafore, Scanless. Campsails: Blackburn, Ar mi - tage, Charbonneau, J. McKnight, five to two. Dubois, G. Moneta became a threat in the top of the ninth when Merritt reach- ed first on an error and catcher Delmonte caught one of Mc- Knight's slants for a. home run when the fielder misjudged the fly ball. LINE-UP Cobalt Squirt Team In Northern Finals The Cobalt Squirt Fastball team is to be congratulated on the fine showing in the Northland Fastball Association Championships played in North Bay on Saturday. They came out of their group as winners with impressive vic- tories over Virginiatown, North Bay and Larder Lake. This put them in the finals against Schumacher, winners of their group. The Cobalt youngsters lost the game which was called at the end of the third inning because of rain. Moneta: Balisle, Merritt, Del- Peter Larabie, Cobalt's pitcher, was the big star of the day, win- ning three games and getting his share of hits, including a three run homer in one of the games. He was presented with a bantam ball for his efforts. Golf Club Notes A number of local golfing events have been completed .during the past few weeks .with the winners and runners-up being as follows: The President's Cup has been de- cided with Bob Tyson of Hailey- bury winning the event with a net score of 65; the runner-up being Dr. George Wallace of New Lis- keard, who posted a net score of 66. Dr. Wallace and Ron Morissette of Haileybury met in the finals of the Captain's Cup with Dr. Wal- lace winning the match and the Cup on the 17th hole. The Bag- shaw Trophy event is down to the finals and the winners will be de- clared when Bill Grozelle of Hail- eybury and Doug McCrank of Co- balt meet in the near future. The Gordon Cup, symbolic of junior supremacy, was settled this past week-end, with Murray Black of Haileybury winning the "A"' division (16 to 18 years), and John Horncastle, also of Haileybury, taking second place. The "B" diy- ision winner (14 to 15 years), was Bill Sipprell of New Liskeard, with two Haileybury boys, Mike Umph- rey and Allan Bolan, taking 'sec- ond and third. The "C'"' division (10 to 13 years) was won by George Kemp of New Liskeard with Bruce Black of Hail- eybury following closely behind to take second place. These boys show excellent form and much will be expected of them in the yearg ahead. The Club Championship, "A" section (under 20 handicaps), is almost completed. Gord McKnight and Harry Kemp of New Liskeard will be playing off this week for the right to meet Bill Grozelle, who has already qualified for the finals in this event. The "B"' sec- tion of the Championship has not yet progressed beyond the eights. On Saturday, September 9th, the Parent-Junior competition for the R. A. Morissette Trophy will be played. The Electricians were value for their win, but were aided by a Latchford Kings In Tie for First The Latchford Lumber Kings trounced Jims Sport Centre 16 to 6 in Latchford in a Central Group Playoff fixture. The win for Latch- ford puts them in a tie for first place in the race for the Ideal Dairy Trophy for the Central Group Championship with Lions 7 oe Sere 5 Sen Juveniles and Cobalt Hawks.=> _ B. Lingenfelter was the winning pitcher while H. Grant suffered the loss. B. Anderson, B. LaRose, S. Bates and J. Hunt were the heavy hitters for the Lumber Kings, while T. Steele and J. The batters had a field day too, and every player reached base at least twice during the game, either on a hit, a walk or an error.
