"Across the Kitchen Table BY MRS. MAC Judging from the condition of the local post office last Friday morning, it would seem that the ability to swim might well be one of the requirements of securing a _ Position there. The clerks were Scurrying around, trying to sort the mail, as they dodged the tin cans of varying shapes and sizes that were scattered around the floor to catch the streams of wat- er dripping from the ceiling. And anyone venturing to the main wicket got his face well splashed _ from the gentle stream that was dropping on the counter. Oh well, it's all in a day's work! - * OF In the spring, more often that any other season, one seems to get a lift from little things, such as the old couple I noticed last Friday, going across the street, hand in hand, after stopping care- fully and looking. both ways (do you suppose someone told them I was learning to drive a car?). Or Steve Whelan coming out of his store in his white apron to take his two little girls safely across the street, then patting their heads and going back again. And I'm sure his day, as well as mine, was brigher because of it; or the policeman stopping to pet the tiny little dog that rushed to meet him as he got out of his car near his office; and naturally, the tiny bits of girls skipping on the sidewalk. Who minds walking around them? And finding a dozen tulips pop- ping their heads up through the ground when you had completely forgotten you had planted them, is really a joy. wo & ® Elsewhere in this issue is an appeal to the older members of Evelyn Shoppe 20 percent off | balance of spring CLOTH COATS and WALKING SUITS SPECIAL printed Silk Dresses in pure silk arnel and tie silk A NUMBER OF SUITS HALF PRICE AND LESS You are always assured of courteous service and top values EVELYN. There could be, of course, several definitions of "'open for navigation" such as in ten feet of open water along the shore- line, a canoe could be navigated very nicely, in a forward direc- tion, naturally, but as usual, the final decision as to the exact date will be left to the official oracle, (Neil Fleming. © So get those coupons coming in, ONE TO A FAMILY, and post- marked no later than April 30th.
