D. Lamothe notched four goals for Haileybury with R. Rivard getting two and singles go- ing to L. St. Cyr, M. Black and S. Fleming. Cobalt's marksmen were P. Saxton, R. Morin and M. Taylor. Midget League Playoff Schedule Announced By President Crandle President Tom Crandle wishes to inform all team managers and coaches of the following Midget League Playoff schedule which must be adhered to. Round 1 -- Cobalt and Haileybury (Cobalt leads this series one game to none, with one game tied). Tues., Feb. 14--Hailey. at Cobalt Thurs., Feb. 16--Cobalt at Hailey. Cobalt Takes Lead Defeating Haileybury 3-1 In the first game of a best of five semi final play off, the Cobalt Midgets downed Haileybury 3 to 1. Dave Lamothe opened the scoring for Haileybury in the first period when he scored on a break-away. Murray Taylor tied the score with H. Spencer assisting. In the sec- ond frame, H. Spencer tallied with G. Flurry assisting. Murray Tay- lor scored in the last period with Spencer assisting to give Cobalt a one game lead. ° Bucke Home Burns Paul Savoie's small frame home itt Bucke township near Sunnyside was destroyed by fire Monday evening. Cause of the fire isn't known, but the old wooden building was burn- ed to the ground. Mr. Savoie was out at the time, and Bucke volunteer fire- men searched the ashes as they feared he might have been trapped inside. Later Provin- cial Police found Mr. Savoie visiting at a neighbour's home. Pentecostal Women Observe Day of Prayer The Women's World Day of Prayer is being held this year in February 17, at 2:30 p.m., with Mrs. Fred Harman as key leader: Mrs. C. E. Peacock will be guest speaker, with her topic the theme of the program, "Forward Through the Ages in Unbroken Line', Ladies from the Anglican, Bap- tist, Gospel Hall, Pentecostal -and United Churches will all have a part in the service. H. Spencer scor- ed four goals for Cobalt with H Kelly and M. Taylor getting sin- gles. D. Lamothe tallied twice for the Haileybury crew with L. St- Cyr, G. Flurray, D. McCarty and B. Allard notching singles. Twelve penalties were handed out with L. St. Cyr getting a game misconduct for using obscene language. Parent and Son Scout Banquet The Parent and Son Banquet which is sponsored by "the Hailey- bury Scout Association, will be held in the United Church base- ment, Haileybury, on February 22, at 6:30 p.m. The Association is hoping for a good turn out of parents, fathers (or mothers, if father is unable to attend). The group committee for 1961 will be introduced for the approval of the parents. Silver Rebekahs Hold Initiation COBALT -- Mrs. Irene Fildes was initiated into Silver Rebekah Lodge at the regular meeting held on Wednesday, February 8, in the 1.0.0.F. Hall, Noble Grand Mrs. S. Wink presiding. Lodge opened in form and duties of officers were given. One officer was. absent. Numerous cases of the flu and some members in the hospital was the visiting committee's report given by Mrs. P. Greening. A very gratifying report of the recent C.P. & T Bingo was given by this committee and they have recently given assistance to a couple of needy families. The Silver Rebekah Lodge ail be sponsoring a bingo on Thurs- day, February 16. An invitation was received from the Lakeside Lodge in New Liskeard, welcom- ing the Cobalt Rebekahs to their Birthday Party which will be held at their first meeting in March. Following the Initiation the Noble Grand congratulated and thanked the officers for their excellent work. Members were reminded of the- Penny Sale they are having on March 2. Thirty-seven members were present. Following the for- mal closing a 'pot luck' lunch and social evening was enjoyed.. Ladies Curling | Music Festival Notes In the last competition for the}. Ladies' section of the Cobalt-Hail- eybury Curling Club, Mrs. Flora McFarlane defeated Mrs. Adele Maloney to enter the playoffs. In the finals, Mrs. Ness McAuley won first prize, Mrs. Jean St. Louis, second, Mrs. Betty Doran, third, and Mrs. F. McFarlane, fourth. The personnel of the rinks were as follows, with skip, vice, second and lead, in that order: Mrs. Mc- Auley, Vera Byles, Jiackie Libby, and Anita Taylor; Mrs. St. Louis, Irene Sullivan, May Renaud, and Joan Hargrave; Mrs. Betty Doran, Lucy Gabbani, Jean Libby, and H. Ellingsworth; Mrs. McFarlane, Clare Marcella, E. Stewart,-and J. Lamothe. In the four game competition now in progress, Mrs. F. McFar- lan has won four games and lost none; Mrs. Jean St. Louis has won three games with one more game to play. No other results are avail- able as there are two sets of games still to be played. The Vice Skips competition, a three game event, will get under way this week. Spring is heading in fast... no sign yet of the crocus, but to-day we received our first Temiskaming Festival of Music press release. Mrs. W. S. Carr advises that the festival will be held on May 3, 4 and 5, that contestants can get entry forms from herself or Miss Gladys Dodge at the New Liskeard High School, Entry forms should be in by the Middle of, March.
