SOUND GOVERNMENT Constitutional or parliament- ary monarchy with a sovereign like ours, is a very sensible form of government, says The Fin- ancial Post. Republics, taken by and large, don't stack up well in com'pari- son. They and their leaders are constantly engaged in fighting the next election, and to that party interest, the interest of the country is most of the time taking second plate. A president may become sick lose touch with public opinion. His leadership may falter or disap- pear, There's nothing to be done in any way of these circumst- ances except wait for his term to end or have a revolution. The Canadian system ot course is not the product of superior wisdom. It's strictly a matter of historical good luck. THE BIBLE TODAY Prior to the "Liberation" of China by the communists, a young Christian Chinese was asked, "If communists take over and the freedom of worship is denied the Church, what will you do? "The Church will go underground" replied the young Chinese: "We have the Bible in our language and we will carry on", and the Chinese Church has cartied on magnificently, The British and' Foreign Bible Society turned over all its print- ing equipment in Shanghi to the China Bible House and_ their achievements since 1949 have been most gratifying and en- couraging. Seven Bible Houses are maintained and 3,294,954 Scriptures have been distributed There is full liberty granted to the Bible Society to maintain its work of fellowship and integrat- ion with the Churches in China. There is not, however. the same liberty to engage colporteurs who will proffer Scriptures for sale in the market paces and on the streets.
