Whorley returned home on Sunday from Toronto where she has been visiting for the past three weeks. Jensen Travels 32,000 Air Miles on Philippine Trip In three months, Hank Jensen, well known Haileybury man has put 32,000 air miles behind him. Associated with Copco at Val d'Or Mr. Jensen left in October for the Phillipines in the capacity of technical adviser to the Phil- lipines Engineering Syndicate who are engaged in a vast pro- ject to develop power resources in that country; a scheme which is being directed by the National Power of the Phillipine Govern- ment. b : The Benguet Mountains, lying 150 miles N.E. of Manilla are the site of this first of a forth- coming cycle of power projects to be developed in the surround- ing hills and piped right to Manilla. Large iron ore de- posits--the Phillipine Iron Mines --are directly resonsible for an ambitious program to bring in- dustry to the capitol city, where large steel mills wil] be con- structed. "T found the Filipinos very easy to get along with" said Mr. Jen- en when interviewed this week. "There is no language barrier for they have a good command of English as well as their own Tagalong dialect. They are quick to grasp things and it was no problem to teach them how to operate mining equipment." Leaving Haileybury in Octob- er, Mr. Jensen arrived in Mont- real TCA and boarded United Airlines to San Francisco; thence Pan American to Honolulu, where he enjoyed eight hours of sightseeing. Stopover for meals were made at Wake Island and Guam. His visit in the Phillipines took in a 300-mile radius of Manilla and before leaving for home from Tokio. he enjoyed a visit in Hong Kong. WEEK IN COURT Strict parking regulations in New Liskeard and Haileybury brought fines to tri-Town resi- dents this week in Magistrate Keririck's court. Munincipal po- lice in Haileybury. particularly, are cracking down with the passing of a new by-law to re- lieve parking conditions in town. Roger Ducharme of R.R. No. 3, New Liskeard parked in a pro- hibited area in New Liskeard and paid $3.00 and costs. A similar fine was paid by Cleo Ducharme for parking over the 60-minute limit. In Haileybury, Arthur Stollery and the Industrial Ac- ceptance Corporation of Kirkland Lake parked in prohibited areas and were fined. John A Adsheadd of Gillies tra- velled on Rorke Avenue at 35 m.p-h. and Ogden Porter of Moore's Cove hit 40 m.p.h. in town and paid fines of $5.00 an $10.00 respectively. : ¢ Elmer Messanger of New J.js- keard estranged husband of Mrs Iris Messanger wa fined $15.00 and costs andordered to pay Mrs. Messanger $16.00 for unlawful wilful damage to window panes and drapes. The charge arose out of an incident last Septem- ber in Chamberlain Township at Mrs.. Messanger's home when the accused was charged with going berserk and wielding a plank causing damages to the premises, Charges of intoxication in a public place led to $10.00 fines to StanleyBadiuk, Frederick Batise Rene Joseph and Raat! 'oseph, all of Matachewan and Joseph Shaver of Barrie. Leo Duimet of Haileybury had liquor unlaw- fully and paid $10.06 and costs. Before the cases were heard D. He had been in ill- health for some time. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Fred of North Bay and Jack of Nipigon. Hennessy ROUX The death occurred on Satur- day, January 22nd of Napoleon Roux at the age of 83. He had been in ill-health since July. Born in Princeville, Quebec, Mr. Roux came north to New Liskeard twelve years ago to work in the Canadian Splint Factory. A year agp, he moved to his home on Georgina Avenue in Haileybury. He ig survived by one son, J. W. Roux of Haileybury. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning in the Holy Cross Church with Father Lan- driault officiating. The pallbearers were Real Sauve, Napoleon Savoie, Pierre Philibert and Fred Larocque of Haileybury; Clarence Willard of Thornloe and Henry Dubinville of Cobalt.
