Hellens and family returned by air last week from a holiday stay at Ellinor Village, Daytona Beach, Florida Mrs. Eric Nyman of Nipigon and Mrs. George Perry of Gerald- ton visited with their mother Mrs. Jas. Childs for a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Tuke of Nor- anda visited relatives in London at Easter and stopped in Hailey- bury for a few hours on their re- turn home. Mr. and Mrs. R. M: Powelson and family are on a motor trip in the United States and have been visiting in New York, Baltimore and Washington. The Women's Association of the United Church will hold their an- nual spring tea and produce table in the Sunday School Room this Saturday afternoon from threc to six o'clock. Mrs. N. J. Lowery Is Honored at Birthday Tea On the occasion of her mother's seventy-fifth birthday, Mrs. Geo Klein of New Liskeard entertain- ed at a mixed tea on Saturday af- ternoon. Mrs. W.R. Lowery whose birthday occurred on Sun- day, April 20th, came to Cobalt in 1905 with her husband, the late Mr. W. R. Lowery and she has lived in Haileybury since 1930, when she took up residence on Brewster street. In the retal business for five years after coming to the North Country, Mr. Lowery started a wholesale business with its head office in Cobalt and the company, now well known as Lowery and Son, has enjoyed continued suc- ceSs sincesits beginnning. Branch offices. are situated at Timmins and Kirkland Lake. Guests were received at the door by Mrs. Lowery's grand- children, Elaine Lowery and Mar- garet Klein» The hostess and her mother received in front of the fireplace, beautifuly enhanced by soft shades of pink snapdragons, arranged in silver rose bowls on the mantelpiece. Mrs. Lowery wore a corsage of orchids, sent to her from Toronto by her son-in- law, George G. Klein, who was unable to be present. Mr- C. F. BLANCHETTE The community was saddened last week with the death of Norris J. (Blondie) Blanchette on Fri- day, April 18, at Misericordia Hospital. He had been seriously ill for many months, Born in 1899 at Victoriaville, Quebec, he later went to Chicago with his family, where he receiv- ed his education. He came to Northern Ontario in 1924, spend- ing three years at Cochrane be- fore coming to Haileybury in 1927 where he held the position of op- erator--ticket clerk with the On- tario Northland Railway. He had been active at his work until last fall, when he became ill. Mr. Blanchette was a member of the Rotary Club, a member oi the Haileybury Golf Club, and a one-time member of the Curling Club. He is survived by his wife the former Stella Munhall, whom he married in 1941, his mother and a sister, Mrs, Pettit, both. of Ren- Hon. Dana Porter, Q.C,, iverett L. Duquette, Mr. Harry Stuckey of North Bay, and Miss Yvonne Dube of Montreal. Through the years "Blondie" had made a host of friends whe Ackroyd and Son will truly miss him and the sym- pathy of the entire community goes out to his wife in her great loss.
