=| ed THURSDAY, SEPT. 25th, 1941 THE HAILEYBURIAN Page Seven Missing Five Days; Man's Body Found Near Former Home Believe Ludger Gagne Took His Own Life; Relatives Can Offer No Reason Missing for five days after he had left the farm house of Wil- frid Bilodeau, in Bucke township, near the Cobalt Contact Mine early on Saturday, September 13, the body of Ludger Gagne, 60- year-old resident of Timmins, was found by provincial police officers from Haileybury headquarters of the force on Thursday morning last. A search of the surround- ing bushland had been conducted by the officers and relatives of the deceased,,under the direction of Constable Fred Simpson, since his disappearance was first * re- ported. The body was found near the farm clearing on the edge of the woods and it was evident, the officers said, that he had committed suicide, using a razor to sever his throat. The razor was found in his hand, the handle wrapped in a handker- chief. Members of the man's family could offer no reason why he should commit suicide. He had lived in Timmins for the past seven years and had been employ- ed as a carpenter. His wife had gone to Montreal on a visit, but was summoned when he was re- ported missing. Gagne had lived ona farm near the Bilodeau place before moving to Timmins The late Mr. Gagne was born at Centre Falls, Que., and had been in the North Country for some 37 years. For 18 years he farmed at Lorrainville, Que., be- fore moving to Bucke township. Surviving are his widow and one son, Ludger Gagne Jr. of Timm- ins; three brothers, Frank ot Cobalt, Alfred of Ville Marie and see Hints On Fashions The dress with its own jacket is a favorite autumn costume. This smart little ensemble is nice for crisp busy days. The wool dress is very simply made, the jacket smartly tailored. The dress has a high round neck and a bias pleated skirt from a hip yoke. The jacket is plaided in brown and orange on a dull green ground to' tone with the color of the frock. The collar and pocket flaps are of the green. MARY MORTON ~ Monday, October 13th, Is Set For Thanksgiving Day Monday, October 13th, will be Thanksgiving Day this year, by proclamation of the Dominion Government, and will be the next general holi- day to be observed through- out the country. The date will include the first open season for partridge shooting which starts on October 4th and continues until the 14th, providing two week-ends, one of them a "long" one, during which the birds may be taken legally. For a light and economical main dish I don't know of anything better than stuffed green peppers, espe- cially at this time of year. You can stuff them with leftovers, or you can fill them with fresh foods and you will find them good eat- ing. Canada's Weekly Newspapers are an essential link in every marketing and merchandising chain. The most thoroughly read publications in the smaller communities, they give you friendly access to two- thirds of the country's consumers. They are your right-of-way direct to the people who do 69% of the nation's retail buying. For it is in the towns and villages of Canada, where local interests top all others, that the Weekly Newspapers top all others in reader interest. They are, as it were, the "community centre," an influ- ential force in the lives of the 7,750,000 people who regard their Weekly as "our paper." By using the Weeklies you reach consumers under the friendliest most sales-making auspices. And you reach dealers, too, secure their co-operation by giving them advertising support they can see and by which they can profit.
