Atoms lose the playoff preview Midland French Dry Cleaners Major Atoms defeated Coldwater 8-0 Sunday afternoon. Midland was led by the three goal performance of Joe Rooney and a brace from Chris Cadeau. Kevin Wood, Greg Spiker and Lee Marion com- pleted the scoring for Midland who led 3-0 after one period and 7-0 after two. Joe McGill picked up the shutout. Saturday, Midland visited Collingwood in a preview of an upcoming best-of-five Ontario Minor Hockey Associa- tion playoff between the centers. Midland took a 1-0 lead lead at 8:33 of the open- ing period when Rooney Penetang connected on a solo ef- fort. Collingwood knotted the count with less than two minutes to play in the frame with Kyle Wilson getting credit. Darin Potts gave the hosts'a 2-1 lead at 8:38 of the third after a scoreless middle stanza. Jake Hibbs counted the final Collingwood tally with just 22 seconds left in the game. Midland travels to Col- lingwood Friday for the series opener at 5 p.m. with the second game in Midland Sunday after- noon at 2:30 p.m, Game three is scheduled for Collingwood Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. No word on the balance of the series, if necessary, was available at press time. Bantams are tied 1-1 in OMHA playoffs The Penetanguishene S. Charlebois Haulage bantams began their On- tario Minor Hockey Association playdowns on the weekend with a win and a losss against Bracebridge. Penetang dropped home ice advantage by losing 4-0 Saturday. Bracebridge was led by the three-goal perfor- mance of Mark McGrath. Bracebridge led 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two. The teams reverted to Bracebridge Sunday where Penetang blanked their hosts 2-0 in a tight checking, hard hitting contest. Scott Galt ex- hibited sensational goaltending in the win turning aside 40 shots. For Galt, it was all in a day's work as he has registered shutouts in each of his last three games. Tim Maheu counted both Penetang goals to be offenive star. The third game is set Friday night at 9 p.m. in Bracebridge. The fourth game will be played in Penetang Feb. 4 at 6:20 p.m. Midland Indusmin Bantams retire early from Silver Stick The Midland Indusmin Bantams enjoyed a good start in the International Silver Stick Finals Satur- day in Port Huron, but unfortunately the dream ended abruptly. Midland dumped West Michigan 4-1 in the opener but dropped a 2-1 decision to Etobicoke in their second encounter.
