Midland man wins election Midland resident Dick Ivens has become the governor elect for 1988-89 for Canadian District West of the Civitan International Club. He won the post at the club's international con- vention held in Midland two weeks ago. The Highland Inn was the scene for the coriven- tion, where approximately 150 members from as far away as Kawartha Lakes and London attended. In- cluded in the crowd were the International President of Civitan Fred Kletroverts and his wife Betty from Ohio, U.S.A. The convention began Friday night with enter- tainment supplied by com- edian Vince Evenden, which was followed by a casino night with various articles being auctioned off by auctioneer Bob Rumney. Saturday's events began at 8:30 a.m. with meetings and the election of officers. In addition to Dick Ivens' election as governor, Grant Ivens was appointed lieute- nant governor by incoming governor Ron Genereaux. A tour of Sainte Marie Among the Hurons was menced with a banquet with Civitan Mike Tinney as master of ceremonies. Midland Mayor Al Roach and his wife Vera attended as well.
