This Access Fund-which will provide $15 million over three years for eligible renovations-is a joint pro- gram of the Office for Disabled Persons and the Office for Senior Citizens' Affairs. After the first Dec. 31 deadline, there will be four more-April 1, 1988; Oct. 1, 1988; April 1, 1989; and Oct. 1, 1989. The Access Fund pro- vides matching grants of up to $50,000 to communi- ty organizations for renovations to their premises that improve physical access for disabl- ed people and seniors. Ex- amples of such renovations include: ramps, elevators, grab bars, alert and emergency systems, signs that are three-dimensional or in braille and changes to structural features such as widening doors. I look forward to these What a show! Those were the thoughts of a packed house at Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secon- dary School on Sunday evening's annual Christmas Concert. The enthusiastic au- dience filled every seat in the house and overflowed onto the bleachers, giving the young musicians a standing ovation. They received two encores from the stage band. The concert bank took the stage first and opened with a stirring fanfare from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The group then displayed their skill and talents as they played a wide range of music; everything from Mozart to Glen Miller, from the Nutcracker Suite to Themes from Flashdance., Prominently featured during this even- ing's performances were trombone soloists Dawn Lockhart and Shelley Charlebois. These young Packed for show ladies will be trying their Grade 6 conservatory ex- ams in January. In the second portion of the concert, the 50 member Junior Band took to the stage. Many of these young musicians had never played an instrument before September. Under the guidance of music director Blake Smith they have progressed to the point where they are now performing simple concert arrangements as well as marches and contem- porary tunes. Many of the young musicians have now made the jump into the concert band. The final group to per- form was High Voltage, the * ESPSS stage band. This group of 35 musicians thrilled the crowd with jazz arrangements by such greats as Glen Miller, and Maynard Ferguson. The performances featured many fine soloists, in- cluding Liz Duval on trumpet and Terry Bugg, Jason Sajan and Allan Limoges on saxophone.
