Fish scales, pottery, coals, pottery, pottery and more pottery... These are some of the things found at Ste. Marie Among the Hurons. Looking back to the past A few weeks ago, some students from St. Theresa's High School went to Ste. reeseegegn ange? It was opening night last Friday for the scene with Robert Brewski III, played by Huronia Players as a full-house crowd William Boyd. Although the site was not an actual site, it is the exact replica of one which was located some miles away. We had a chance to "shovelshine," which is what you do to start a lot, and trowel, which is what you do to discover many artifacts and stains. After many hours of work on the site we broke for lunch. After lunch we had a chance to learn how to map the site, and register many of the pieces of pottery. We also put pieces of pottery together. The day was enjoyable if you like hard work and was also very educational. Although archaeology is fun you have to have quite a bit of patience! (Written by Michelle Krause, grade 9) Report Cards and Parent- Teacher Interviews All of the students at St. Theresa's High School in Midland are relieved ex- ams are finally over. Weeks of study have prepared them for the final outcome - report cards! Report cards . are being sent home this week. For the parents of those injured students (and those not-so-injured), there will be an opportunity to meet the teachers on Monday, Nov. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 1 to discuss their son's or daughter's progress. Inter- views begin at 7 p.m. (Written by Matt, Becky, Tanya, Colleen) 1 a a * =. --Critic's Corner _by John _ St :! oddart- Baby Boom not side-splitter Baby Boom, rated PG, is you with a good feeling now playing at the Roxy 1 about the world. theatre. J.C. Wyatt, played by Diane Keaton, is a high- profile Madison Avenue business executive in line for promotion to full part- ner in the firm. Along with her boyfriend, she lives in a Park Avenue equivalent of Yuppie Heaven. Wyatt's world comes tumbling down when the results of a will leave her with a baby to contend with. To say she is ill-prepared to juggle a career and motherhood is the understatement of the year. As the movie progresses, we see her change from a shallow, one-dimensional, self-serving person to a warm, loving woman/mother. Diane Keaton is totally believable as J.C. The film is rated PG but should have been AA, as there is nothing offensive at all in the film. Baby Boom isa sentimental, romantic throw-back to films of the 1930s and '40s. If you saw the previews and are going to the theater expecting a side-splitting comedy, you are going to be disappointed. The film stands on its own merits and will leave Rating: **1/2 (A personal thank you from this film reviewer to the Babcock Brothers. for not only supplying top rate entertainment on the same week it opens in Toronto - a rare accurrence in a town less than the size of Barrie - but also for resisting the heavy admission price in- creases that went into ef- fect in all North American cities last week. For in- stance it now costs $7 to see a film New York City.)
