pURON, Locus "eer Prt dO | PRAM Belly Flop This Stayner Siskin forward goes for a dive at the Penetanguishene Arena, Friday night as the Kings dropped a 9-2 decision to the league leaders. Kings were outplayed for the first two periods, but were well st. Theresa's play at Barrie St. Theresa High School's Senior Boys AA Volleyball team _ par- ticipated in the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Championship Tournament Thursday at Barrie Eastview and came away empty handed. The first match of the tournament for the Crusaders was against Midland Secondary School Marauders. St. T's played one of their best games of the season. The precision passing of serve allowed setter, Chris Quesnelle, to provide the hitters with ac- curate sets and the MSS blockers were not able to anticipate the Crusader at- tack as St. T's rolled to an impressive 15-3 win. However, the excellent play of the Crusaders was short-lived as they dropped the next game 7-15 to MSS. The third game went to St. Theresa's 15-11, even though the team was slug- gish and inconsistent. In the next match against Innisdale, the Crusaders were unable to get untrack- ed and lost two games to none. The final match of the round robin was against Collingwood. St. Theresa's needed a victory to qualify for the final and another chance against Innisdale. Once again the Crusaders got off to a slow start but were able to stage a late rally. However, it was a Case of too little, too late as Collingwood's ear- ly lead held up. The team of Trevor Scott, Gig Leader, Chris Quesnelle, Brad Larmand, Pat Bowers, Adam Four- nier, Anthony Zwick and Phil Gibson worked very hard this past season and developed their individual skills and teamwork. It was a disappointing end to the season as the team had _ improved tremendously in the final weeks of the season. To the team's credit, they handled their disappoint- ment well and offered no excuses, just the promise to work harder next season. Novices take weekend wins Gervan and Associates Novices skated to two more victories this past weekend. Saturday saw the Ger- vans hosting rival Penetang. Neither team seemed quite ready at first. Consequently the first two periods ended without a goal being scored. Gervans finally came alive in the third, pumping in four unanswered goals to win 4-0. As is customary, with the team so far, each goal came from a different marksman. "We are a dif- ficult team to defence at this point," remarked Coach Dave Durtnall, "because you can't key on just one player'. Scoring for the Gervans were G.W. King, Shawn McGuire, John Cameron and Keith Diver. Assists went to Ryan Smith (2), Cameron, King, Rory Lavechia and Scott Blake. Joe McGill notched his fourth shut-out in eight games. Gervans travelled to Bracebridge on Sunday for a tough two-day contest featuring excellent defense and hard-skating. Midland won 4-1 behind goals by Smith, Bowers, King and Cameron. Assists went to King, Cameron, Grant Mannapso and Cor- by Lesperance. Cameron's goal was par- ticularly exciting. Playing two men short with four minutes left in the game and Bracebridge threaten- ing, the score was only 3-1. Cameron picked the puck up in his own and, bulled his way down the ice and snapped a high shot over the goalie's shoulder. The goal effectively doused any Bracebridge comback hopes. Gervans play five more games over the next two weekends before heading for a tournament in Hunt- sville, December 5.
