The tournament turned out to be a successful start to Penetang's season as they came away cham- pions of the Steamer Division. In their first game after a summer-long layoff, Penetang was shelled by the Newmarket Redmen Oldtimers 7-2 with Red Weatherell scoring both goals for Penetang. Jim Rooney collected a pair of assists. Prior to the second game, Penetang coach, John Dubeau, made a shrewd coaching decision moving veteran defenceman, Larry Banks, to left wing. John stated he wanted to take advantage of Banks' abili- ty to play over the entire ice surface. The move paid off as Banks counted three times in a 6-3 Penetang vic- tory over Bracebridge Model T Oldtimers. The boys beat LeC- aron, ESPSS, Orangeville and St. Theresa's in stra- ight games in pool play, then finished a perfect day by defeating St. Theresa's 15-6 and 15-3 in the finals. In league play, the Junior Marauders have beaten St. Theresa's, Elmvale, ESP- SS, Park St., Central and Eastview. They pushed league - leading ODCVI to three games in their last meeting. By season's end the MSS team is an- ticipating a victory at the North Regional Playoffs at MSS on November 4, then on to the GBSSA Cham- pionships in Barrie on November 12. This year's team is a mix- ture of strength and ex- perience with promising talent. Captain Bill Mit- chell, probably the best middle blocker in the league, leads his team by example. In their third contest, Penetang defeated the West End Rockers from Toronto 7-1. Jim Rooney paced the Penetang attack with a hat trick while Gerald Gignac fired a pair of markers. Gerry Hewitt and Red Weatherell round- ed out the scoring. Waxy Gregoire contributed four assists to the victory. Paul Devillers and Ron Jeffery helped out with two assists each. The victory sent Penetang into the cham- pionship game of the Steamer Division against Bracebridge who they had defeated earlier by a 6-3 score. This time around Bracebridge got a little closer, but not enough as Penetang skated to a 6-4 win and the championship. Larry Banks, Rick Ander- son, Jim Dubeau, Ron Jef- fery and Red Weatherell accounted for the Penetang scoring.
