Activity on Bay at former store The Town of Midland might lease to a third par- ty some land it is negotiating to buy. Negotiation is underway for the purchase of some of the Bay Street property owned by Dr. David Hurst. Dr. Hurst's dental office is between the Midland Legion and the former Canadian Tire store. The land being discussed could become, combined with land already owned by the municipality, a park- ing lot of 38 parking spaces. Last month the town received an offer from the owner of the old Ganadian ? Tire building to buy some land for parking. Georgian College's Midland campus is already located in the old Canadian Tire building. The town planning and development committee has been in- formed that the building's new owner has been "'quite successful in attracting retail tenants such as Tim Horton's Donut Shop, "Steinberg's Valdies Stores, and possibly a government office." The new owner is put- ting a second floor on the building. Construction continues. Campaign starts The Midland YMCA's annual campaign to raise money to help pay for nor- mal operating expenses is under way. The goal is $69,000. The money raised helps to keep fees and services accessible, and permits the YMCA to sponsor members, Chief Executive Officer Austin Matthews said. The campaign this year will be conducted through the mail and by telephone. The YMCA fundraising campaign started on Sept. 28 and will end on Oct. 15.
