a -- HOME IMPROVEMENT Elmvale home Grace and Cheryl and lan Bennie moved from Barrie to Elmvale one year ago. They had intended to buy a farmhouse with property, but fell in love with a nearly century-old home in town. While most of the structural remodeling had been completed before they bought the house, they were faced with a kaleidescope of colours throughout it. Colours rang- ed from bright purple, to turquoise and to shocking pinks and greens. x charm of by-gone era With an eye for decorating, they have made this older house a showpiece but have still retained the feel of a comfortable lived in home. Many antiques grace the rooms and add to the character. Blue and beige blend downstairs to create a warm country look star- ting in the kitchen and carries throug to the family room and downstairs bathroom. A border with shade of tan and blue in the family 2 room compliments the beige wallpaper and white wainscotting. A tiny print wallpaper of tan and blue changes the whole look of the downstairs bathroom which was painted bright purple. Chery! is still working on ideas for her living and dining rooms and for the staircase up to the second floor. She has used a combination of white paint and dark stain to define the staircase and provide a lovely focal point when entering the front door. Two bedrooms upstairs have been transformed into every little girl's dream. With canopy beds and antique dressers in the rooms, Cheryl has choosen a dusty rose with white and pink accents for one room, and yellow and w hite in the other to create feminine look her girls love. Both the Bennies are still work- ing hard at redecorating this truly marvelous home. In the future they hope to complete the third floor in- to a magnificent master bedroom, complete with sitting room. The outside improvements they have made have added to the charm of their home. A recent ad- dition of an inground swimming pool required the construction of a privacy fence. This they added without taking away from the character of the house. The unilock driveway they laid themselves has created an old fashioned look that blends in with the overall look of the home. Many long hours of decorating and changes has resulted in a restored older home. The Bennies can be proud of and which definite- ly shows their pride of ownership and respect for heritage.
