Penetang Ladies Hockey League, Square Seniors take lead Three runs in the final frame carried Vasey Seniors to a 3-1 win over Hillsdale Barrie Auto Glass Hustlers Thursday night in Simcoe Rural Fastball League semi-final playoff action. Hillsdale counted once in the fifth inning, but pro- bably blew their chance to open the game up. Left fielder Mark Ronald led off by reaching on an error to the third baseman, and then stole second. With one out, Keith Matieson stroked a base hit to put runners on the corners for Tim Johnstone who cashed Ronald with a base knock. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball, but were left stranded when the next two batters fanned. In the top of the seventh, Jim Mills doubled with one out. Tom Widdes, pinch running for Mills, scored when Brent Gordon slap- ped a two-out single. Ken Edgar reached on an error to the shortstop, Howie McFadden and both run- ners were cashed on Keith Ball's two bagger. Rob McLean picked up the win for Vasey, allowing one run on five base hits, walking one and striking out six. Joe Mathieson was assessed the loss for Hillsdale, coughing up three Vasey tallies on six base hits, walked a batter and fanned eight. The win gives Vasey a 2-0 lead in the best of five series. Game three was played last night in Vasey. Midland Minor Hockey Assoc.
