Crime Stoppers hopes to solve Oro murder Crime Stoppers of Sim- coe County and the District of Muskoka, along with the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, request the _ public's assistance in identifying the persons responsible for the murder of a young woman in Oro Township. During the early morn- ing hours of Sept. 1, 1983, Claire Samson, age 23, a prostitute known as Casey, was seen standing in front of the Essex Hotel on Jar- vis Street, Toronto. She got into a large size, beige car that was driven by an older, balding male person, and taken away. She was not seen again. On Friday, Sept. 2, 1983, Samson's body was found in a woodlot area off Oro Sideroad 20/21, near Highway 93 at Crown Hill, just outside of Barrie. She had been shot in the head with a small calibre weapon. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 cash to anyone who provides in- formation that leads to an arrest in this case or any other case. Callers are never re- quired to reveal their iden- tity or testify in court. Call Crime Stoppers at 721-3333 (in Barrie) or toll free at 1-800-461-TIPS. A re-enactment of this case will be shown on the CKVR newscast on Thurs- day, Aug. 27. Festival has grown since last year With less than a month to go until the second annual Wye Marsh Wildlife Festival, everything is in' place for an even bigger and better show than last year. The festival began as a fundraising idea for the non-profit conservation centre. The plan was greeted with enthusiasm by dozens of artists, musi- cians, conservation clubs, and exhibitors who jumped on the bandwagon and made the event a resoun- ding success. More than 140 volunteers helped with planning, promotion, ticket sales, the food tent, admis- sions, and souvenir sales, making the event a real community affair. The public's response was outstanding as well: thousands of visitors turn- ed out to enjoy the festival's unique mix of family entertainment and the conservation message.
