Residents and a majority of Town council members objected to the idea of the cargo ship docking on the south side of Midland har- bour in a high residential area. The Woodland Marine is scheduled to bring another cargo this month. Cargo ship is expected to return later this month Cargo ship Woodland Marine is scheduled ten- tatively to return to Midland harbour on July 18. The cargo ship brought its first load of cargo - waferboard - to Midland June 25 after a battle on town council between pro- business forces and some residents of William Street, who complained that if the company were allowed to Local hospitals stay out of insurance plan Neither Huronia District Hospital nor _ Pene- tanguishene General Hospital are among the 49 Ontario hospitals which have banded together to create their own liability insurance plan. Huronia District will consider seriously next year joining the hospitals- run insurance plan, ad- ministrator Gord Key said. HDH is interested despite a slightly higher premium than HDH is pay- ing now. HDH's insurance bill for fiscal 1986 was $50,000. Four years ago HDH paid $4,000 for insurance. Under the hospitals' plan, the chance of a re- fund of 25 per cent of-an annual premium, after four or five years, is 50 per cent, Key said. The insurance plan created by the 49 hospitals is named Hospital In- surance Reciprocal of On- tario. It began operation on July 1. The participating hospitals represent 19,000 of the province's 27,000 hospital beds. Public mischief A Midland man has been charged with public mischief in connection with a report of a stolen car. A 1977 Ford Thunder- bird reported stolen to Midland police on June 30 was found by Elmvale OPP in a ditch on July 1. The owner of the car, Lu- cien Tasse of King Street, Midland, has been charged with public mischief. He will appear in provincial court on July 20. Accidents last week Midland OPP officers in- vestigated 22 motor vehicle accidents in the week in- ding yesterday. In eight cases, personal injury resulted. On July 4, on Lot 105-106 Side Road, Tiny Township, Lisa Desroches, 17, of Perkinsfield, was the driver of a car which roll- ed. She was treated at Huronia District Hospital and released. She was not charged. NSWMA legal bills up The legal bills to the North Simcoe Waste Management Association in its court battle with Tiny Township have so far add- ed up to $11,000. Tiny is suing the NSWMA and attempting to block its search for a new garbage dump. On Ju- ly 29, the fight will return to Supreme Court, where Tiny is seeking an in- terlocutory injuction. That would stop the NSWMA in its tracks. NSWMA clerk Yvon Gagne said the legal costs will soon go up another $1,000 to $2,000 because of the involvement of an auditor and several trips by NSWMA officials to Toronto. dock at the foot of their street, trucks would disturb the neighbourhood and en- danger children. After much discussion, the majority of council voted against allowing the ship to use the Midland harbour; instead, it docked across the bay at Maple Leaf Mills in Sunnyside. The Woodland Marine is carrying a load of lumber to Windsor from Thunder Bay for MacMillan Bloedel and will be stopping in Midland. Woodlands Marine's local represen- tative, Matt Parry, said he expects the second cargo load to Midland will be about the same in volume as the first. Woodland Marine hopes to establish a flow of cargo in and out of Midland suf- ficient to make Midland a profitable, regular stop. The opposition of residents and a majority of town council members resulted in rejection of a Woodland Marine Inc. ap- plication to allow it to use land at the foot of William Street.
