Page 2, Tuesday, June 16, 1987 A, 7 DARBY ME VE . Councillors agree Tiny councillors agreed last week that the fee increase for municipal searches would stay. The search fee was set, during council's previous meeting, at $75, a 300 Beaches to see ATV patrols The Township of Tiny passed a bylaw which authorized the hiring of four bylaw enforcement officers at its June meeting on Wednesday. The new peace officers are students from the law enforcement program at Georgian College. They will be responsible for issu- ing parking tickets and en- forcing local bylaws. One of ordinances the of- ficers will upholding is Tiny's anti-littering bylaw which has been toughened with a $100 fine. The pro- blem of litter in the township was described as 'monumental' during the meeting. Guy Maurice described the amount of garbage left after hours at the gates of the Pauze dump as a disgrace. Coun- cil also heard that littering by motorists was an in- creasing problem. In its correspondence, council received a letter from MacKinnon, DeVill- ers, Peet and Deacon pro- testing the increase in fees for municipal searches. The fee was increased at the previous council meeting from $25 to $75. Councillor Ross Hastings said the increase in the fee was necessary to offset the cost of the search. "Somebody's got to pay for it." The searches are under- taken by legal firm, estate agents and others and the fee passed on to their clients. The letter describ- ed the 300 percent increase as sudden and dramatic. Celstin (Pete) Bidan who has operated Huronia Animal Control for the past 12 years submitted a tender for another two-year term to council. Bidan asked for and got a five percent increase in his operating cost, paid for by Tiny ratepayers. Bridan stated in his letter that when he started the shelter, he picked the best ideas from others shelters and noted that his shelter was used as a model by other municipalities. Deputy Reeve Peter Brasher complimented Bridan's work. Reeve Mor- ris Darby said council should meet him. Council also decided to get tough with operators of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) who operate in prohibited areas. Ratepayers in Bluewater say the beach has been turned into a race track by ATV users. Council is plan- ning to fight back with its own ATV. Councillor Ross Hastings said its the only the fi n ishing per cent hike. Councillor Ross Hastings said the fee increase was necessary to cover the cost of a search. way to slow down the pro- blem noting that the OPP had once shown up with their ATV and 'surprised' the violators. Clerk Administrator Guy Maurice said he would in- struct the bylaw depart- ment to look into the cost of leasing an ATV and report back to council. g House ...furnishings and gifts 20% or LACE CURTAINS til Sat.
