SRFL to host league tourney This coming Friday and Saturday (June 19 and 20) the Simcoe Rural Fastball League will Monsignor Castex Public School was the overall winner at the Area III Public School Track and Field Meet held last week at be holding their annual League Tournament. This year the twelve team league tournament Sacred Heart School. The school was the first-place winner in both the intermediate boys and girls divisions. Well over 400 will be hosted by the Wyevale Concrete 'Hawks' and all the games will be played at athletes competed representing 13 schools in the day long event. The meet is sponsored by Royal Canadian Legion Midland Branch 80. Dolezel leads Mountainview The First Annual Midland Point Relay took place on the weekend with 23 teams com- peting. The Ernst Leitz Canada sponsored event was enjoyed by all participants. The top men's team was the Mountainview Men who ran the course in 57 minutes and 19 seconds. The team was comprised of Don Foster (14:58), Chris Wright (14:51), Greg Lutick (14:16) and Joe Dolezel (13:14). Stoneleigh Motors placed second with a time of one hour and 40 seconds. Team members were Paul Devillers (15:05), Louie Belcourt (16:58), Rob Fortin (14:51) and D. Shaw (13:46). The last team to enter the race finished third. The aptly named Procrastinators were only 20 seconds behind Stoneleigh. They were led by Mark Taylor's 13:33 and follow- ing in order were Dan Gilbert (18:50), John Zurick (15:03) and Mike Taylor (15:34). In the ladies section, Coutts Cruisers took top honours with a time of 73:02. Leading the way was captain Carole Coutts (16:39) sup- ported by Barb Cousineau (19:25), Sue Clif- ford (18:42) and Jan Popple (18:16). The Mountainview Mamas came second behind the leadership of Angela Schmidt Foster, whose time of 14:25 was the second fastest overall in the first lap. Schmidt Foster's time was about a half minute faster than her husband's time. Other team members were Laurie Holman-Ross (24:44), Susan Nielson (20:57) and Jennifer Ross (17:07). The fastest lap was recorded by Dr. Joe Dolezel with a time of 13:14, one second ahead of second place finisher, Evan Cameron. Mark MacDonald followed with 13:32, while Mark Taylor trailed one second back. Don Foster's 14:58 placed him fifth.. Angela Schmidt Foster recorded the fastest lap time on the female side with a clocking of 14:25, trailed by Louise McKenzie of the Mac Attacks (a mixed team), with 14:45. The General Manager of Ernst Leitz Canada Limited, Mr. Hans Witt, officially started the race and also presented the prizes valued at over $400 after the finish. McKen- zie, incidently recorded the third fastest time in the first lap. Approximately 150 spectators enjoyed the race, most of whom used Ken St. Amant's front lawn as a grandstand. The second game of the night will see the Midland Stoneleigh Firebirds against Wyebridge Murray Fagan Roofing beginning at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, June 20, the games will begin at 8 a.m. with Port McNicoll E and R Discount playing Penetang Huronia Chrysler. Other scheduled games are: 9:15 a.m. - Elmvale Mets vs Midland G. Wilicers; 10:30 a.m. - Elmvale Sports vs Vasey Giants; 11:45 a.m. - Hillsdale Harvey Cassell Ltd. vs Vasey Seniors. The games will continue on throughout the day with the championship game scheduled to begin around 7 p.m. . All fastball fans and even non-fastball fans are encouraged to come out and enjoy.the park settings, the ball games, the fresh air and even the great hot dogs at the Wyevale ball diamond. The tournament promises to be ex- citing as the first few weeks of the schedule have proven. Men approached by other interested sponsors. Next year's event is expected to be even better.
